Seriously, I've had good luck with a couple of Thinkpad models. In fact, there is a topica (www.topica.com) mailing list dedicated to installing Linux on Thinkpads. Appropriately, the list is called "linux-thinkpad". John LeMay Jr. Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC, LLC. [tag] Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

In any case, go to the laptop page mentioned earlier here on the list (or do a google search for 'linux laptop', or go to http://www.inficad.com/~rustyc/bookmarks.html and go to the linux section where I reference (possibly with broken links, sorry) some laptop pages. In other words - be CERTAIN that it supports linux FULLY - read all the details! rc Rusty Carruth Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Voice: (480) 345-3621 SnailMail: Schlumberger ATE FAX: (480) 345-8793 7855 S. I get around 2 hrs of batt life with hardcore work (lots of disk and constant music streaming over the wireless LAN). It recharges in maybe 30 mins. --- [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mandrake detected all the hardware, and only thing I had to do is make sure the ALSA sound driver was loaded. Run sndconfig just after logging in as root, and completed some minor setting up in X Windows, and thats all it took. The Laptop is running a Celeron 466 MHZ cpu, with 128 MB ram. Don 73 de kk6wj

Had to pull a string or two for X, modem (surprisingly) works OK, sound does not - probably since I never had a good enough reason to spend time to make it work...
