You guys are making me really sad :-( I've been a machinist in the
aerospace field for about 13 years and I've spent the last 4-5 years
trying to break in to the IT field. That is one tough field to crack!
I've been doing computer work on the side from my regular job, but without
documentable experience with a company (or a BA/BS), no-one wants to hire.
I just settled for going back to a job running a cnc machine - I want to
be a system admin!!

Oh well,

Hang in there, guys! I was contracting and sub-contracting for almost a
year, from June 2001 through March 2002. It was mostly part-time
contracts, so I tried to keep a couple going at any time, but it was
impossible to find enough work to keep me busy. I landed a "systems
engineer" job for a consulting company, starting April 1st. It's a small
company, and they can't afford to pay me what I would like, but at the
time I took the job, I wanted a steady salary more than I wanted to keep
looking for contracts and/or employment :-)

It's hitting us all.
I'm on a 1099 at the moment, but it's limping along a month at a time. It
could end any moment. (this gig was supposed to end late July, but extended
until late Sept ). And the radar is quiet for new work.

The IT Sector is a ghost town. Ah for the good old days of year+ long
contracts at $100+ an hour.

in the last few months, things are really drying up in the IT sector. It
is really tough out there. I don't think we will ever see the good times

Hey Civ,

Just so you don't feel too bad about having to be job hunting again, I
thought I might share this little tidbit of info with you.

You are, no doubt, aware of Max Vision, and his recent travails. Well
out check the following. The man is back (we hope)!

Others on this list my also know of Mr. Vision, and if not, you might
want to aquaint yourselves with one the founders in the NIDS area.

Someone in the Bay Area PLEASE hire Max!

FYI, he got hosed, not that it matters to most people.

I know this is a cross-post, but I think Max is well known to most of

Subject: bay area security professional, $6.75/hr... Please read below!

Greetings security employers:

I have an unusual situation that I would like to describe to you, and in
doing so I am asking that anyone who can immediately employ me in the
San
Fransisco Bay Area, please read this email and consider taking advantage
of my availablity and temporarily low cost.

I am...
o a seasoned professional with extensive security skills and experience
 o a once convicted hacker (DOD, 1998)
o local to the San Fransisco Bay Area, I live in Oakland
o willing to work for mimimum wage (for the next two months)
 o eager to work 60 hour weeks; I don't mind nights/weekends/holidays

My Skills
I am considered by many to have expert level proficiency at both
penetration testing and network intrusion detection. I am also skilled
at
vulnerability research, firewall configuration, unix system
administation
(solaris, linux, *bsd), web administration/development, security policy
development, and I even do windows.

My Conviction (why I am desperate)
I am not proud of being convicted of a felony, but it is important
that
a potential employer know of my status. Apparently if you have FDIC
insurance there is a clause stating that you cannot hire a convicted
hacker on your projects. It is also because of my status that I am
desperate for security-related or even internet-related work.
The truth is, I am living in a federal halfway house transitioning out
of prison back into society. I have to find local work to meet their
requirements, and they haven't approved any telecommute offers I have
had
so far. The director of the facility told me that if I don't find a job
in the next week or so he will send me back to prison (my sentence
actually ends October 12th). Now, maybe he will be more compassionate
and
see that I have made extraordinary efforts to find a job, but either way
I
really need work right now. I have been showing up at places that farm
out manual labor, 5:30am, and still haven't found any work. My
situation
is just ridiculous.

My Location
I deeply appreciate the offers I have had for telecommute work, but
unfortunately I need local employment for at least the next several
months. I live in Oakland, but I can commute to anywhere that BART
reaches.

My Price
I am willing to work for minimum wage for the next few months. Surely
there is some open position at a security company in the area - hire me
as
a janitor but give me a cubicle and I'll do vulnerability research or
help
with security audits or have me sling html or whatever is useful to you,
who will know? The last half dozen employers I have had paid me at
least
$100/hr for my time, now I am only asking for $6.75. If it came down to
it, I would be willing to sign an agreement whereby I will repay all
wages
after a certain amount of time (I do need money like anyone else, but
that
is secondary to having a job - my very freedom depends on getting a job
in
the area). Seriously, this is your chance to get someone who really
knows
what they are doing, cheap. If you can put me to work immediately,
please
do.

Sincerely,

Max Vision

Printpro installs in expert mode if you select 100%. If you use individual
package selection and deselect it... it doesn't install

Of course the later CDs recognize the conflict and install either cups or
printpro but not both. You CAN have both sets of drivers loaded and even
tell cups about the printpro drivers.

How do you not install PrintPro using the expert install and LM 7.2 Deluxe?
I finally had to upgrade to the latest cups to even get printing to work. I
kept getting an "Expired Licence" error in Kups when trying to print.

Thanks much! I'd remembered not to install cups AND printpro, but I did
have problems with zope. On a related note, if I'm running lpr instead of
cups, should I bother with printpro install? I installed cups not printpro
because of automatic dependencies, but I don't run cups. Thanks again for
reposting this info!

If you selected individual packages and did not install conflicting zope
services or cups AND printpro, you should be OK and not need the additional
instructions.

civileme,

Recently, you posted a message about the command to run on the update CD
if you had run the install in expert mode. Was it the live_update or
live_update2? I had run it then discarded the message, but I've since
reinstalled to move things around a bit.

Thanks,
