press Ctrl-Alt-F1 .. that should take you to a text cosole.. basically that
combo will always take you to the first text console assuming you are in X.

to kill X do Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace

If you are getting blank display and can't do nethign about it, then at
LILO prompt say "linux 3".. this will take you to runlevel 3 which means X
won't start by default.. thus u'll endup in text console.. now login as
root, play with X configuration, say startx and see if X works.. once you
have X working, just say init 5 and u'll be on u're way to X login!.. and
next time u reboot, it'll auto go to u're working X login :)))

[expert] Installing Mandrake 7.0 with Matrox 220... Blank Display...

2000-09-01 Thread Daniel Baker

Hey,

I know this has to be something simple I am missing here, but I want to
install Mandrake 7.0 on another machine, however only Red Hat 5.1 will
install (I haven't tried newer versions of either dist.)

Is there a key combination I can hit to get to the "Textmode" ? the manual
for mandrake is pretty much useless in this instance.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Dan.
