Re: [expert] Is Athlon OK for Mandarake 7.2

2000-09-21 Thread JASON SNYDER

I don't know if this relates to your problems, but I did see a couple of corky
things when I installed mdk 7.1 on my Athlon 800 (older Slot-A with K7V m/b).
What I saw was that my /root/.vimrc file and my /etc/rc.d/rc.local files got
corrupted. I don't know why this happened, but I was able to pull those files
off of another Linux box running mdk 7.1. Since then the machine has run
flawlessly and I leave it on all of the time. (There was one time that I
moved the computer and another when I upgraded the video card which I had to
shut down the machine to do, but it has not gone down do to OS problems.)

Something to consider about the A7V m/b is that it has integrated Ultra66
controllers that mdk 7.1 should like out of the box, but it also has an
integrated Promise Ultra100 controller that it should not like unless you
tweak it. If your friend is trying to install to the integrated Promise
controller and seeing that you weren't specific about his problems, this seems
to me like the first of the stumbling blocks that your friend is going to hit.

I've just tried a Mandrake 7.1 and it messes up on choosing root password.

 What could the trouble be?
