I have a friend less than 1/2 km closer to the phone co than I, both on
dead ends. She connects at 31K using a USR Courier. I connect at 26-28K,
usually 26 with the same Courier modem. Usually 33K modems get a minimum
26K connection here. The 56K modems I've tried here more often connect
at 24K or less rather than 26.

Hi..
Thanks for the reply...
I have looked through the docs and can find no mention of the d/load
speed

Hi Ted,

Just checking, but are you sure it is reporting 6 kilobits or 6 KiloBytes, if the
latter, then 6 X 8=48 kbps (not bad for a 56 k modem)

Huh? That sounds like kppp is giving you the speed in kiloBYTES.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless your connections are obviously slow. Six
kilobytes/sec is actually a pretty good transfer speed for a 56k modem.

Hi..
I have a Hayes Accura 56k external modem, when I connect to the www or pick up
email, I chaec on the details in the kppp dialler and the connection speed
never goes above 6kb, in fact it seldom reaches this .Is there any way to tweak
the startup scripts or have I just got a slow ISP.I realise the modem speed
is quoted in kbits and assume so is the kppp dialler ??
