Problem solved -- for me, anyway. I saved my .config to a separate area, did a "make mrproper", then started the whole process over again -- loaded my config, then repeated the whole compilation. I just updated an 8.2-RC1 machine to the 8.2 official release, and I'm seeing the problem again myself. My .config, for anyone interested, is attached. This happened to me when I tried to compile a 2.4.18 Mandrake kernel on Mandrake 8.1 a little while back. I had downloaded and installed the kernel-source and kernel-headers RPMs from cooker (I think they were version 2.4.18-something and 2.4.17-something, respectively, at the time). I was baffled, until I removed the kernel-headers I had gotten from cooker and replaced them with the "production" RPM (which was 2.4.8-something then) and I no longer got the errors. Compile went smoothly.
