Sure, simple answer for all your questions is: Cooker. The RPM came from cooker (at 2.4.2-3mdk now, but I haven't upgraded yet), and you can download ISO's of cooker with that kernel and do the install with it. No, I don't think there's a major reason to upgrade to 2.4.2, at least not that I know of. From my understanding (and this may have been corrected by now), there is a problem with mounting loopback filesystems with the 2.4.2 kernels... whethere this is still the case or not, I do not know. I don't typically update kernels in cooker each time a new one comes out, but I will probably update to the 2.4.2 kernels soon (for testing purposes, etc.). I could be wrong though... like I said, I'm not too big on the kernel... I don't pay much attention to it. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED], OpenPGP key available on www.keyserver.net 1024D/FE6F2AFD 88D8 0D23 8D4B 3407 5BD7 66F9 2043 D0E5 FE6F 2AFD - Danen Consulting Serviceswww.danen.net, www.freezer-burn.org - MandrakeSoft, Inc. Re: [expert] New Majordomo mandrakeusers help list
Do you know of any compelling reason to upgrade from 2.4.1-15 to 2.4.2? I am running 2.4.1-16mdk and seem to only see a few network cards and the like added to the supported list in the 2.4.2 kernel. I don't think there is any improvement to any of the internals, really, or am I wrong? I see you're running 2.4.1-15mdk - are there any mandrake rpm's for this? also, I'm wanting to run it cause of the ATA/100 support, is there anyway for me to make an install Mandrake using this new kernel package? i.e. make a bootdisc that uses it, and burn a custom Mandrake CD with the new kernel package on it? -- There are exceptions, I'm sure, but the Windows 2000 on-line community seems to have, in general, the moral and spiritual qualities of your average porn site. How come you want to start another help list? As far as I know there is in exsistance: mail lists: expert newbie cooker newsgroup: alt.linux.os.mandrake Web Sites: MandrakeExpert.com forum (to many more to list here) As you split more and more forums for help out the peopel who provide the help will split up and in actuality the turn around time for help will decrease. I know I will not be able to subscribe to to many more email lists before I need to give up. This isn't a very good idea... the mail turn around is going to be slow for a non-24/7 server. And mail might bounce and so forth... you really should get a dedicated mail server if you want to run a mailing list. If you like, I can setup a mailing list here (something like [EMAIL PROTECTED]), but I don't understand the need... is newbie|cooker|expert not enough? I'd be more than happy to host a mailing list on my server (which is available 24/7), if you think there is a real need or desire. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED], OpenPGP key available on www.keyserver.net 1024D/FE6F2AFD 88D8 0D23 8D4B 3407 5BD7 66F9 2043 D0E5 FE6F 2AFD - Danen Consulting Serviceswww.danen.net, www.freezer-burn.org - MandrakeSoft, Inc. Thats why I asked subscribers to only send mail to the list at the specified times... ONLYthat way the turn around rate will always be good.
