look on forum.mandrakesoft.com, there was recently a discussion about
Promise UDMA there.

[expert] P Ultra66 DMA?

2000-06-26 Thread Greg Harbin

I have a Promise Ultra66 card installed in PCI slot #2
and each channel has a primary drive attached to it.
I also have a drive attached to my IDE channel
onboard. I recently loaded up LM 7.1 and it had no
trouble setting up these drives and installing a
software raid. Now when I run hdparm -c -d /dev/hdx
none of the drive are using 16 bit mode or dma.
Setting the hda to hdparm -c3 -d1 yeilds very
impressive improvements (remember this is a drive on
the onboard IDE bus). No problems so far. Now when I
try to do anything on the drive connected to the
Ultra66 it will let me into 32 -bit mode but resets
the bus if I acivate dma. It even crashed the whole
system and corrupted the drive (I'm glad I'm using
RAID 5.) Could the Ultra66 be supported only in a
very stripped down mode? Does anyone use hdparm to
setup their drives connected to an Ultra66? The BIOS
of the Ultra66 is seeing the drives as UDMA 4.

Any help or insight into this would be greatly
appreciated as this RAID's fuctionality is severly
limited by the slow bus.

Thanks in advance
Greg
