do this part from the GUI, much easier, imo, as root on the CLI, 'mcc', then or
'K menu,>configuration, >configure your computer,>login as root,[now both are

Why the deuce didn't they adjust the hdlist.cz files to match what
they provided to club members. I shelled out $120 specifically so I
could download the Powerpack stuff and be off and running. The least
Mandrake could have done for us "paying customers" is get the d/l
version correct instead of what appears to be a hack job. But I won't
go into that now.

Right.

Ok, this helps. Thanks. It also confirms what I've learned
in goofing around with this.

Since I get the digest form of this list I have to wait some time to
see replies. Working into the wee hours last night I actually figured
some of this out on my own.

So, for example, on CD1 I find the file `pkg-9.2-FiveStar-i586.idx'
which has nice entries like:

 MandrakeLinux9.2-Sources-1 tetex-doc-2.0.2-10mdk.i586

Well, tetex-doc is one of the items I selecteded---hardly a commercial
application. But "Sources-1" is not one of the three CDs provided to
Silver club members. Thanks Mandrake! (Why "tetex-doc" is considered
a "Source file" I have no idea. It looks like someone said "hey,
there's some space left over here on the Sources-1 CD so lets just put
some of the leftovers there. ½-:))

I know, I know. I could go over to the ftp site and download it by hand.
Let's not go there. :-)

My memory may be failing me but, as I recall, when I did that it just
went to the next stage of the installation skipping the rest of the
install. (There was about 1 min of software installation left on the
time slider.)

I'm struggling with "urpmi" on the commandline but I'll get it
eventually. In fact just to force the issue I gave the
urpmi database a frontal lobotomy with `urpmi.removemedia -a'.

So now I _must_ learn how to work urpmi!

I didn't know that `ezurpmi' was working for 9.2. The big red
message at the top of seems to
say otherwise. I'll check it out.

I removed all the cd sources, and setup main, contrib, updates and plf as
sources via ezurpmi at plf.

[expert] Q: Powerpack Ed. download from the Club

2003-11-05 Thread Dean S. Messing

When downloading the Powerpack Ed. from the Club do I need to
also d/l the 3 distribution CDs (making six CDs total)?

I ask because I only downloaded the 3 Powerpack CDs and I'm having
all sorts of problems intalling the system. Apparently some
packages I've selected in the "individual package selection" are not
on the three CDs I burned so I have no way to continue when it asks for
"Sources CD 1" or "Applications CD".

Any suggestions? I can't simply avoid selecting certain packages
because I have no idea which packages are on which CD. Any help will
be appreciated.
