Re: [expert] RE: Installing MDL 8.2 on PowerPC-Mac
I agree with you, I'm positive that there is something wrong with the CD. I am able to boot macos X, and use data CD's as well as music CD's. I use to use YellowDog Linux on my mac, and it was cool but when I heard that Linux Mandrake was available for macs I jumped all over it. I was hoping that Mandrake will do that someday and they finally have. Once I get Mandrake linux installed on my mac I will be good to go. I'm still trying to find out if Mandrake PPC uses the Altivec (velocity engine) natively, if not then I will have to get linux to use it. Once that is done, then I could have things cranking at 3.5 gigaflops. Imagine MDL ppc on a dual 1GHz power mac with the use of the velocity engine, 15 gigaflops doesn't sound too bad at all. Thanks for your response and helpful input, I appreciate it. [expert] RE: Installing MDL 8.2 on PowerPC-Mac
Finally after a week (for some strange reason), MDL PPC booted off the CD. The problem I have now is that as I hit the [ENTER] key, the bootloader displays: cd:2,\\vmlinux: Unknown or corrupt filesystem I understand the error message, but it doesn't make any sense to me. First of all, when installing linux you will eventually have to create filesystems (partitions) usually of the ext2 type. I am re-formatting the entire drive anyway so MDL should be concerned. Unless the error message is pointing towards the actually vmlinux folder on the CD, maybe that got screwed up during the ftp download or the conversion from an iso image to a bootable CD. I have no idea. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. -O omyryn wrote: Greetings everyone, I have power mac G4 cube and I'm unable install linux 8.2 PPC onto it. I insert the installation CD and hold the c key as the system is booting up (as per the directions on the MDL site), and nothing happens, my macOS keeps booting up. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. O __ The NEW Netscape 7.0 browser is now available.
