[expert] Re: [MandrakeForum] AOL
I have read that there is a version of AOL that works on linux, it is beta, and it was only meant to be used inside of AOL. Some on put the beta on the web or something. I will see if i can find out where I read it. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: AOL (http://forum.mandrakesoft.com/article.php3?sid=2907091315) Frédéric VAN ACKER writes "Hi, Is it possible to use AOL as an Internet Provider with linux Mandrake ? I heard that AOL used some specific connection protocol. Is it true and is there a solution ? Thanks a lot, Fred. " SHORT ANSWER IS NO. Long answer is: AOL uses some really funny protocol, and if there is any way to use AOL as provider under Linux, I am not avare of it. I heard some rumor that "next version of AOL" should work under Linux/with Linux/whatever, but I have no idea if this is true, nor when is this "next version" due. Very strange internet provider. If anyone knows of a way to use AOL+Linux, please tell us.

Re: [expert] Re: [MandrakeForum] AOL
Last year AOL was sued by the National Federation of the Blind because their interface was inaccessable to the blind and deaf/blind, who require a text interfacre for use with screen readers and braille output. In an agreement to avoid suit, AOL has agreed to produce a text based interface to AOL. There is a time frame they have to comply with this so I would expect that it AOL becomes accessable to DOS and text users, that Linux use would also be there. Just a guess.
