[expert] Weird behavior of display+

1999-10-20 Thread Sergio Korlowsky

I have installed all the new XFree86.3.3.5 files becouse I purchase a
new video card
that wasn't working with mdk 6.0
It's a Diamond Stealth S540Xtreme - Savage-4 Xtreme with 32mb in vram,
128bit - AGP 4X S3TC running @ 166mhz (memory) and 160mhz (engine clock)

well after installing all the new stuff finally worked! ;-)
well... Now I get the login GUI ok, but when X starts puts me in a xterm
intead of
the KDE desktop, I have to manually type 'kde' for kde to start. but if
I close the xterm,
kde closes as well.

I also have not been able to configure my sound card, (it's the price to
pay for using cutting edge
hardware ;-)) The sound card is an 'Ensonic' from Creative Labs. I have
tried the couple of drivers
included, none of them seem to work with this card. It complains about
not being 'kerne' support for that 'module' I might need to recompile my
kernel to add support for this particular card (?) its a PCI
Card.

This is because X is not starting up KDE for you. Sounds like you're getting a
"failsafe" session with no window manager at all. At the command line, type
"usekde", and that should setup your files for you correctly.
