Look for a section in the /etc/dosemu.conf file that looks like the following:
$_hdimage = hdimage.first # list of hdimages under /var/lib/dosemu
# assigned in this order such as
# hdimage_c hdimage_d hdimage_e
# If the name begins with '/dev/', then partion
# access is done instead of virtual hdimage such as
# /dev/hda1 or /dev/hda1:ro for readonly
# Currently mounted devices and swap are refused.
# Hdimages and devices may be mixed such as
# hdimage_c /dev/hda1 /dev/hda3:ro
# Note: 'wholedisk' is _not_ supported.
$_hdimage_r = $_hdimage # hdimages for 'restricted access (if different)
$_aspi = # list of generic SCSI devices to make available
# for the builtin aspi driver (format of an entry
# is 'device:type:mappedtarget' such as
# sg2:WORM sg3:Sequential-Access:6 sg4:CD-ROM or
# sg2:4 sg3:1:6 sg4:5 (which are equal)
Where you see hdimage is the place you are interested in. What you need if
you want HD access is a dos partition that you have formatted and is bootable.
Let's say that you have fdisked and formatted /dev/hdc1 for dos. Your
configuration change in the above would be:
$_hdimage = /dev/hdc1 # list of hdimages under /var/lib/dosemu
At this point you should be able to run dosemu and get a prompt. If you want
to format the partition with dos 7.10 (win98), that's fine. I've done that
and it works great for all the older dos games I've got, right on back to
Daggerfall and Ultima Underworld. Dos 7.10 is superior for dos gaming.
A caveat: You cannot do this if you already have /dev/hdc1 mounted. Dosemu
will not let you. However, you CAN run dosemu and boot the partition, THEN
mount it under Linux. The dosemu documentation showers you with all sorts of
voodoo curses and dire warnings about doing this; but as long as you don't
try two tasks at once, and you're either in dosemu or Linux but not working
tasks in both simultaneously, you should be OK.
If your machine blows up, though, it's not my fault. ;)
Dear friends
I am trying to run an old programme I compiled for turbo pascal (ms-dos)
with
dosemu, but I must recognize that I am a newbie with dosemu.
to run this package I need acces to a directory, because I need acces to
at
least 5 files: bioclima.exe, egavga.bgi and 3 fonts files. The problem
is that I
don't know how to acces to a harddrive or a directory with dosemu.
Could anyone help me to do that?
Thanks a lot in advance; yours sincerely
