Re: [expert] ifup on 7.2

2000-11-06 Thread Werner E. Niebel

Ihad the same problem with configuring my LAN... Ill try and repost
the original message.. Noone responded to my original.
I dont know what the fix is or why the network configuration isnt working
with 7.2. Ive never had a problem until this point and its on the
same machine...

I
just installed 7.2 and after I configure my dialup connection using linuxconf
when I do a ifup ppp0, the script gets in a loop. After I check the /var/log/messages,
I see that there is an modprobe error saying that it couldn't find module
char-major-108. I can connect using kppp, and I could do dialups using
7.1, but not in 7.2Thanks,Luis

Actually I did fix it. The thing was that one of the scripts was trying to
use wvdial to connect, and it is not installed. I found out when I saw the
ifcfg-ppp0 file that had an WV=something entry and after I removed it,
the ifup ppp0 command worked.

I also had problems with the lan and I found out that it was not setting a
default route. The eth0 device was up, but no default route had been
set. After I did an ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0, the default route was set
and the lan worked fine.

I just installed 7.2 and after I configure my

saying that it couldn't find module char-major-108. I can connect using kppp,
