wondering if there's any problems using an AMD (t-bird or duron) for
my linux server.

Nope. I swear by the ASUS A7v (or A7Pro). Probably the
most robust Socket A motherboard available, tho Epox,
Abit, Biostar.

I've sold about 15 ASUS Duron/T'bird systems running
Linux or NT in the last month, with no problems
anywhere. From 750 Duron to Athlon T'bird 1200Mhz.
Just get a good fan/heatsink, make sure your power
supply is up to scratch :-)

Definitely go with a Socket A not a Slot A.
