But in previous releases of MDK you would need to go into /etc/xinetd.d and edit the file wu-ftpd so that instead of disable = yes becomes disable = no and then restart xinetd (/etc/init.d/xinetd restart) to get it working. Re: [expert] rpm failure in wu-ftpd installation
Thank you very much, Mr. Kwan. I was trying the 2nd option (get the macros from a mdk90 box) but as it was getting too long and I was too busy I ended doing the other option. Now wu-ftpd is installed, but still I can not log in!!! Thanx once more. ( Thanx a lot for your interest! ) Sure... Try this: Install the source rpm first. If you're doing this as root, go to /usr/src/RPM/SPECS or wherever your RPM installation directory is. In the ./SPECS directory you'll see the wu-ftpd.spec file. Take a look at this file in your editor. The lines of interest are: %pre %_pre_useradd ftp /var/ftp /bin/false This is where the installation is failing. This line will add a user called ftp, with home directory of /var/ftp and /bin/false as the shell. The %_pre_useradd is a macro that exists in 9.0 but not in 8.0. There are two ways around it -- either delete the %pre section entirely then rebuild the package or copy the _pre_useradd macro from a 9.0 system into the 8.0 /usr/lib/rpm/macros file. To do the former: 1) delete the %pre and %pre_useradd lines then save the spec file. 2) rpm -ba wu-ftpd.spec 3) Create an ftp user if it doesn't exist with the above shell, dir,etc.. 4) Install the newly created RPM. And for the latter: 1) Extract the /usr/lib/rpm/macros file from a 9.0 system. 2) Copy the %_pre_useradd macro to the 8.2 system. 3) Install the binary package you created. I looked into /usr/lib/rpm/macros and saw nothing weird (thougth don't know exactly how it shoul be). Also, I did a: rpm -Uvh --force --allfiles rpm-4.0.3-10mdk.i586.rpm but it is still with the same problem :-(( Any more bet? [expert] rpm failure in wu-ftpd installation
I'm having troubles in installing wu-ftpd. I tried to update some packages from 8.2 to 9.0 manually as upgrading was giving me problems. It all resulted in a complete dissaster and went back to reinstall original 8.2 packages. As I was not able (still haven't) to make wu-ftpd go ok I tried a "help advice" to a similar case I found googling: rpm --rebuild /home/diego/tmp/wu-ftpd-2.6.2-3mdk.src.rpm rpm --erase --nodeps wu-ftpd rpm -Uvh /usr/src/RPM/RPMS/i586/wu-ftpd-2.6.2-3mdk.i586.rpm but this last command gave the error: rpm -Uvh /usr/src/RPM/RPMS/i586/wu-ftpd-2.6.2-3mdk.i586.rpm Preparing...### [100%] /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.98366: fg: no job control error: execution of %pre scriptlet from wu-ftpd-2.6.2-3mdk failed, exit status 1 1:wu-ftpd### [100%] >From what I have found this rpm message is solved using the --root option, but to what directory? Any hint? what do I do now? Maybe better to change back to Windows and make true that stupid ones use their "OS"??? I feel quite a bit fuzzy by now as solving each error just brings me to another (I could feel like it's improving, but I begin to think it's endless after a week of solving things) Thanx -- Diego Dominguez __/\__ | | Andalucia /\ Spain \/ |__ __| \/ ___ Yahoo!
