Print to a file, then use xpp to print the resulting postscript file.  LyX 
calls lpd directly which is why it doesn't print in CUPS.  If it used an lpr 
command, it would be easy.

The first place to look for CUPS related gotchas  fixes is this series

A search on "lyx" there narrows it down to FAQ (7). Your problem is
documented and there's a fix.
