:~This is constructive criticism for MDK7.0

Too late, sorry. Shop is closed, we only accept cryticizm on 7.1 now .-)

:~I absolutely adore MDK6.1 (the best!)

:~#1 Install TAKES TOO LONG!
:~#2 Install is TOO BIG!

Well, in "recomended" (now called Authomated) mode installer just tries to
make you happy by putting as much as your HD can take to HD. If there is
no place on HD, packages are dropped from install based on how
good|important we think them to be.

For more controle over install, use "customized".

:~#3 Install lost the customizability of old redhat.

Absolutely not.

:~#4 cacheing DNS files not created by install: /var/named
:~missing.

hm. Caching DNS config is in caching-nameserver-6.0-3mdk.noarch.rpm

:~#5 No text install?

Yes text install ;-

:~#6 Should Let user choose between Postfix and Sendmail.

should:

rpm -e postfix; urpmi sendmail

It is not fancy, graphical, or "during install", but it looks simple
enough to me. And I am not a friend of postfix either.

MDK 6.1 in 4 server / desktops
RH 6.0 in 1 server
RH 6.2 in 1 desktop

so does this mean I get to have EVERYTHING installed, if I have, say, 20 GB
of free diskspace? I just tried mandrake 7 beta 2 yesterday, but I really,
really missed some kind of 'install EVERYTHING' feature. Well, maybe I just
overlooked it?

btw, I also got the following error (during beta 2 install) when I was just
about to set the time zone:

"An error has occurred
cannot list the available zoneinfos."

It happens no matter what install procedure I choose (recommended, cust.,
expert, - normail, devel., server)

I have an Asus P2B mobo running an Intel Pentium II 450 mhz cpu.

If anybody cant help me out on this me, please let me know

This is exactly how I understood your message. The point is - 7.0 is too
old to discuss its features anymore.

Did you try "text" install and select "custom"? If not,
then you have nothing to bitch about. Yes, it would be NICE
to have a GUI custom install, but even RedHat's GUI won't
let you do a truly custom install. I know. I just installed
RedHat 6.2 here at work and to get a custom install I had
to select "text expert." Not only that, but it so darned
sluggish on the GUI install.

Which features did you miss in graphical "expert" install? Especially in
7.1?

I think Denis strongly recommended NOT using Beta2 and to use Beta3 instead.

I may be wrong.

I urge all the list members with complaints to take it to Mandrake! The
purpose of this list isn't to trash our developers but to help users who
need it. Telling the list that this, that and something else doesn't
suit *you* defeats the reason Mandrake has a bug report. It is possible,
after all, that other users do NOT have your problems with your system.

Mandrake developers rock! They give us the hottest, latest bleeding edge
technology available. Please, let's support them. Of course if you do
not want a Expert users list, that is up to the list.
