Re: [expert] RPM keeps locking up
What are you using to install the rpms with - what version of Mandrake/RPM/KPackage/GnoRPM? If you can give us a little more detail, perhaps we can help. Angus This started when I used Mandrake Update - I see duplicates, but how would I go fix this? It is Mandrake 7.2. Here's the rpm info # rpm -qa | grep rpm rpm-3.0.5-25mdk rpmtools-1.2-11mdk urpmi-1.3-10mdk grpmi-7.2-14mdk rpm-devel-3.0.5-25mdk rpm-python-3.0.5-25mdk gurpmi-0.7-10mdk rpm-build-3.0.5-25mdk rpmtools-devel-1.2-11mdk gnorpm-0.95.1-1mdk grpmi-7.2-17mdk rpmlint-0.24-1mdk rpmdrake-1.1-15mdk grpmi-7.2-17mdk running rpm -V rpm give me no output. Andy Where are you trying to upgrade FROM? If you are pointing MandrakeUpdate at "Development", you need a new library and rpm4, plus many orther things. The ONLY files you can use for 7.2 from "development " is the directory called "unsupported". Even the new kernel in cooker requires rpm4. I imagine the database is getting corrupted by something. Regards Mark Keep in touch with http://mandrakeforum.com: Subscribe the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" mailing list.

Have you tried... rpm --rebuilddb -JMS -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Andy Judge Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2000 11:57 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] RPM keeps locking up What are you using to install the rpms with - what version of Mandrake/RPM/KPackage/GnoRPM? RE: [expert] RPM keeps locking up
Developement does not mean what you think it does here. In Mandrake update it is referring to UNTESTED or ALPHA or BETA level packages which are part of the Cooker distribution. Normally you want to avoid these if possible. Make sure that you can go into the configuration and update the list of mirrors. Then try to choose a mirror close to you. -JMS -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of bascule Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2000 2:05 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] RPM keeps locking up would this explain why, when i run mandrake-update, the boxes appear that say 'updating list' and 'fetching descriptions' (from memory could be different wording) and after they go there is nothing listed in either 'normal' or 'development'? i guess all my installed 'normal' packages could be uptodate but there must be some 'development' packages i don't have since i haven't actually installed any! update has worked in the past which is why i think normal showing no updates is just about believable but no updates for 'development'? bascule On Thursday 14 December 2000 2:17 pm, you wrote: Where are you trying to upgrade FROM? Also run rpm -V rpm and see if you get any output. No output means everything is hunkydory with the rpm command. tom berkley Andy Judge wrote: When I try to install rpms, the computer locks up and becomes unresponsive. It does this in all runlevels.
