Re: [expert] USB ZIP250
How can I disable it at boot time? In lilo.conf by removing the append line? I do not want to make it worse. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Wasn't there some problems identified with devfs in the latest Mandrake release? I think they recommend disabling it at boot time until they produce a fix (they may have, I just don't like devfs so I left it disabled). t -- PGP key : http://n12turbo.com/tarragon/public.key Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? This is most confusing. While reading about devsf on a website I found that the terms /dev/sda1...4 are legacy designations and that they would be links to the actual devfs node. Since I had created the node with mknod I went back to try to figure out the link issue. Lo and behold when I performed an ls on /dev the file sda4 was now a link (I did not do anything to the machine or file). I tested the drive and it works fine under root and user. I wish I knew what is going on. If I turn off the machine, must I wait for some strange event of period of time before I can mount the drive? Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Does the drive work on another machine? Do any disks work in the drive you are having a problem with? Can you get a hold of another USB drive to see if that is the problem? Do you have any other USBish things to try? Perhaps the problem is not with the drive, but rather with your USB settings. -- Alex Linux 2.4.16 #1 Thu Nov 29 05:52:59 EST 2001 i686 8:00pm up 1 day, 20:30, 2 users, load average: 0.06, 0.08, 0.03 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [expert] USB ZIP250
The disk was used as received from iomega in a windows machine and then used on my Linux box. It works ok if I use a parallel port zip (but I gave that one to my 8 year old) together with a Linux box! Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Some additional info. There is a zipdisk in the drive when I boot the machine. The disk is a regular iomega formatted disk. If I issue the command: mount /mnt/zip, the drive spins and the activity light flashes and I get the unknown file system error message. Fstab is set for auto and /dev/sda. Re: [expert] USB ZIP250
might be an fstab error? or is it not finding the drive at all through USB? do you boot thru LILO? is the "append " statement in lilo.conf "devfs mount"? or "nomount"? is the drive mounting? Re: [expert] USB ZIP250
It is a USB drive. If I give the mount command, it returns an error message indicating it cannot identify the file type.
