Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: List Culture and The FFL Post Count
From: anartax...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife] FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com FFL has averaged 48.5 posts per day since January 1st of this year. The Peak is showing about 25 posts a day but is showing an even sharper decline at the moment. I do think substantive conversations have declined because of the reduced contrast in viewpoints. Quite frankly, I think that substantive conversations have declined because everything has been said, probably a hundred times, over the course of years FFL has been around. That, and the fact that most people have lightened up over the years and don't cling to old ideas enough to feel they have to argue about them. Try to imagine how pathetic it would be, after all, to still be stuck in a mindspace in which one still thinks that TM is the best and most effective form of meditation is a viable basis for an argument. I would say some others left because they got upset at something they could not emotionally handle. Supposedly meditators and sidhas can neutralise the critical thinking (or negativity from another viewpoint) of others because their minds are more powerful and satvic. It did not pan out this way. Jim left, seemingly in a huff, as did Nabby; they seem happy over on the Peak. We don't know why Judy left, she just basically stopped. Jim left because he got caught acting out his obsessive anger towards me by indulging in the classic legal definition of slander. He'd been doing it for years, but when he turned *really* nasty and started encouraging people to contact officials in my town and tell them I was a child molestor, then he went over the line and I sicced the law on him. Jim ran away because he was afraid the Dutch cops would put him in jail (which they could have). Nabby was doing exactly the same thing in terms of slander, but another of the reasons he ran away was because he knew that the Dutch cops and Interpol already knew who he was in real life behind his screen name, and that his pretense all these years of being German was about to be blown (he's really Norwegian, and has been lying to everyone on FFL and a.m.t. about his real citizenship for years). But the bottom line -- outside of these specifics -- is just as Anartaxius suggests. These guys just couldn't emotionally handle hearing opinions that differed from their own. They tried their best to make those contrary opinions go away, and when they couldn't, *they* ran away. As for Judy, I think a case can be made that the real reason WHY Jim, Nabby, and Ann all ran away is that Judy was no longer around to protect them when they got into one of their group slander-fests. None of them had neither the intelligence nor the balls to keep up her act without her. ...snip... Here on FFL we can discuss these ideas pro and con, without killing. If you think your ideas are special and need some kind of protection however, you are entering the discussion at a disadvantage, you are entering the discussion with a weakness, for if you think your ideas need to be artificially propped up, then it is clear they do not pass muster in the game of reality. Bingo. Also we do not necessarily discuss reality here. We can discuss the plot of a movie that is based on a fictional script, or a song, or a poem, or one could talk about feelings. But when reality is part of the conversation you have to deal with a particular entity called the 'fact'. A fact is 'a thing that is indisputably the case'. That means you have to demonstrate that something is true, not just say it is true. And I think that everyone here would have to admit that long-time TMers are not big on facts. They're used to claiming to know things and having people actually buy that bullshit, the same way they bought the bullshit when Maharishi claimed to know things. Now Buck, you have stayed around. Congratulations. But you need to hone your debate skills, and get your facts lined up. Now that the TM movement has dumped you out yet again, why not tell us what you really think? How has your spiritual progress panned out over the years? Did it work as well as you expected. Better? Worse? For example, mine worked out pretty well, but I have many points of contention with the TMO, and where the TMO failed me, I found other resources. I don't blame the TMO for its inadequacies, even if they came directly from M. The flexibility to move on when necessary is after all one of the features of Creative Intelligence, to do something different if what you are doing is keeping you in a rut. TM did well enough (for me), but the universe is wide and expansive, the playground of search is not restricted to one note. It will be interesting to see whether Buck is still sane enough to reply to this. It would be pleasant -- and surprising -- if he was. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, dhamiltony2k5@... wrote : Left or driven off? [FairfieldLife] Reasons for Colonizing Mars
Primarily, it's for the survival of the humanity. That would include the economic advantages of creating an infrastructure to colonize Mars. That means employment for engineers, physicists, scientists and astronauts and others who will contribute to the colonization of the planet. Then they are told to allow whatever big pharma deems profitable with a vaccine, to be injected into their body. You can see why a growing segment of society is questioning vaccines. OTOH, I am amused at the segment, usually people who consider themselves liberal, are instant doctors when it comes to the issue of being pro vaccine. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: sanskrit fever
Just wait until they start learning the 11 tenses. It's such a much more complicated language than probably any modern day language. And make sure you don't confuse Devanagari, the alphabet, with Sanskrit because Hindi also uses it and it there is are added characters for z and f which didn't exist in Sanskrit so they could spell foreign words with the characters. When I was in India you would see a store sign with Devanagari on the top line and English on the bottom but the Devanagari was spelling out what was written in English. :-D On 04/21/2015 04:38 AM, aryavazhi wrote: I saw this on FB too. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: List Culture and The FFL Post Count
About all we're left with posting to FFL is a few science-writers, some lurking reporters, an occasional linguist and a few informants that got kicked out of the TMO decades ago. All the others left the group - now we are alone on the spiritual path. Nobody wants to give us any spiritual help. Where is Share when we need her? ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, dhamiltony2k5@... wrote : Many of the writers left here have in many ways become the people they revile, bullies like they see Bevan or others in the movement community... That's the cognitive dissonance, Buck. If we are guilty by association like Salya seems to think, then everyone is a bully to a certain extent - it's sort of built into the system, it's a feature not a flaw. The problem is that we have no Correctors anymore, to sort of level things out, so the present inmates just get to run roughshod over the TMers. It's starting to look like there are only 3 or 4 TMers left on FFL - and only one single real TMO insider informant. So, we are probably not going to get much news about the movement on this forum. Go figure. Nothing to see here folks. Just another person trying to blame the fact that he and the people he likes can't think of anything intelligent to say on the people they don't like. Sooo, turns out that there WERE ZERO posts since last night.Just another tell that FFL is going down for the count.
Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: List Culture and The FFL Post Count
So, it's all about Jim. All about Jim acting out his obsessive anger towards Barry. So, that's what it is all about. That's what I'm talking about! Barry won the religious debate. And, he got rid of Judy. Barry won. Addressing the important issues! LoL! ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, turquoiseb@... wrote : Jim left because he got caught acting out his obsessive anger towards me Why was Jim angry with Barry? Why was Judy angry with Barry? Why did the 12 others leave the group in anger? Why did they get so angry? Why would Jim be jealous of Barry? I'm trying to help you out here, Barry, keeping the conversation going. So many questions to be discussed, so little time. by indulging in the classic legal definition of slander. If so, then Rick would have probably banned Jim from the group, right? So, I wonder why he did not? Go figure. Ironically there is an evident invective that is intolerance to conversation here and to divergent idea by a concentration of some few who remain active posting here. Sooo, turns out that there WERE ZERO posts since last night. Just another tell that FFL is going down for the count.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: List Culture and The FFL Post Count
Yes, I know the truth hurts sometimes and its difficult to admit it. Judy, to my knowledge, never posted a single lie to FFL. She never called anyone a liar just to win a religious debate. When she posted that some of you informants were posting untrue statements, she called you on it. It's not complicated - you guys either fibbed or you lied - it's a form of newsgroup dishonesty. I never promised you a rose garden. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, turquoiseb@... wrote : Try to imagine how pathetic it would be, after all, to still be stuck in a mindspace in which one still thinks that TM is the best and most effective form of meditation is a viable basis for an argument. Nobody on this forum, so far as I can tell - ever posted that TM was the best and most effective form of meditation. So, yes it is kind of pathetic of you to post it once again. Go figure. Left or driven off? This as your thinking is fine as intelligent retort on one level Anartaxius except, the low post and dwindled active member counts may show something else. Looking in on the culture of what is FFL now, is it a surprise the numbers have dropped off when there is so much about Fairfield or larger spiritual matter being talked about otherwise by others actively involved in it? No, it is like the well was poisoned here by some. Ironically there is an evident invective that is intolerance to conversation here and to divergent idea by a concentration of some few who remain active posting here. If could be we are just getting on with our lives. Now that most of the TB crazies have left, some of the tart, sharp conversation has dwindled, and there are less opportunities for intelligent retorts. I think you would have welcomed the change. 'Intelligent retort'? We've not been very good at discussion here for some time on FFL and the place as a forum is nearly dead. Yep, visiting looking back in on Fairfieldlife at yahoo-groups evidently this is mostly a sad inhospitable place rendered down to some pulp substance of travelogue, movie reviews and the personal bickerings of a few. Mediation simply means to think things over in our mind. So, everyone meditates to a certain degree every day. Meditation is based on thinking and there's hardly a person on the planet that can't think. We couldn't go through a single day without once or twice pausing to take stock of our own mind's mental contents. And, we are all transcending all the time. There's no TM, Barry. [FairfieldLife] US weighs crackdown on homeopathic remedies over 'significant safety issues
The Guardian - US healthcare Hearings to conclude on Tuesday into whether reported concerns including loss of sense of smell are cause for greater regulation of booming industry Homeopathic remedies [Homeopathic remedies typically contain highly diluted concentrations of their active ingredient, leading critics to claim they are little more than sugar pills. Photograph: Peter Macdiarmid/Getty Images] Rory Carroll in Los Angeles Tuesday 21 April 2015 08.57 EDT Last modified on Tuesday 21 April 2015 09.14 EDT Sceptics consider homeopathy a joke, a bogus science that belongs in a punchline, not a pharmacy – but US government regulators are suddenly taking it seriously. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is holding public hearings this week to explore whether it should toughen oversight of what has become a controversial, billion-dollar branch of the healthcare industry. Critics have long called for greater scrutiny and regulation of homeopathic remedies that make bold healing claims and and fill pharmacy shelves alongside conventional drugs. “I hesitate to call these remedies ‘drugs’. They’re mostly sugar pills,” said Jim Underdown, the executive director of the Los Angeles branch of the Center for Inquiry, a nonprofit that advocates secularism and science, and made a presentation to the FDA panel on Monday. “People seem to think they actually have medicinal value, but all the science points to that not being true.” The FDA invited consumers, patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and industry groups, among others, to make oral and written submissions “about the current use of human drug and biological products labeled as homeopathic”, as well as the agency’s regulatory framework for such products. The hearings, held in Silver Spring, Maryland, conclude on Tuesday. They offer a rare official forum for advocates and foes, and some who hold a halfway position, to argue over a fast-growing industry. In 2007, according to a Centers for Disease Control survey, 3.3 million Americans spent $2.9bn on homeopathic treatments. Homeopathy, pioneered in the 18th century by German physician Samuel Hahnemann, operates on the basis that “like cures like” – that heavily diluted versions of substances which cause ailments can cure the same ailments. Under current FDA enforcement policies, issued in a 1988 policy guide, homeopathic remedies can reach pharmacy shelves without official safety and efficacy evaluation. The agency is now reviewing that policy in light of the “dramatic increase in the homeopathic product marketplace over the last 25 years”, it said in an emailed statement. Another factor was concern about “significant safety issues” in recent years, including more than 130 reports of loss of sense of smell associated with the use of three over-the-counter cold remedies, and a warning about Hyland’s Teething Tablets because of inconsistent levels of belladonna. A third reason, said the FDA statement, was availability of more scientific data. Studies in Australia, Britain and the United States have found little evidence that homeopathic remedies work. In a submission on Monday, Adriane Fugh‐Berman, associate professor of pharmacology and physiology at Georgetown University medical center, said classical homeopathy, which seeks to match a patient’s ailment with a single, personalised remedy, should not be a regulatory concern. However, most remedies were pre-mixed and sold over the counter to consumers who often confused them with dietary supplements and conventional medicine, she said. “The dangers of selling prescription drugs as homeopathic remedies are obvious. Allowing homeopathic remedies to sit side‐by‐side with conventional drugs that have undergone FDA scrutiny as over‐the‐counter drugs is inherently misleading.” Luana Colloca, an associate professor in anaesthesiology at the University of Maryland, speaking to the Guardian after she addressed the panel, said she did not favour homeopathic remedies for serious diseases but said they “could be acceptable” for minor ailments, even if any benefit was “probably” just a placebo effect. Colloca said lack of dialogue between the pro- and anti-homeopathy camps hindered patient awareness of best treatment options. “I think integration of the two systems could be very helpful for the patients.” Homeopathy representatives defended their industry and the existing regulations, saying there was no need for a dramatic shakeup. “Consumers most likely to buy homeopathic medicines are committed to their health and devote considerable research effort in evaluating healthcare choices,” said an American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists submission. “Consumers who have used homeopathic medicines highly trust their prescribing physician because of their personal experience, the safety profile, the low cost of the medicine and the consistent quality of homeopathic products,” said Lisa Amerine,

Apparently you have just posted a non sequitur. An inference or conclusion that does not follow from the premises or evidence. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, sa...@yahoogroups.com wrote : Apparently you are still a thick twat. The question is, why would someone purporting to be a science-writer have to resort to posting non sequiturs just to win a religious debate? ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, richard@... wrote : Apparently you've just posted an association fallacy; an inductive informal fallacy of the type hasty generalization. Re: [FairfieldLife] Eye-Talians and Vaccines
People are told daily in scientific articles to be careful about what they put in their bodies when they eat. These are sometimes the same people who question contradictory nutritional claims by scientists.
