Mindfulness and the Berggruen Institute.. Yours is an extremely insightful critique of the modern ‘mindfulness’ movement. There is a peppy advert that runs on public radio in Iowa for a holistic health clinic that combines all health modalities up in Iowa City also using mindfulness. Is the kind of thing that TM could have capitalized on except that TM was so focused on establishing its own franchising of exclusive TM trademarks. It's somewhat ironic that the SIMS Movement started there, and down the street on Gayley Ave with various people associated with Jerry Jarvis. First lecture I heard re: TM was at UCLA by the Wallace and Winthrop Brothers and then later by Jerry. MMY came there in (1968?). Don['t have time to explore the reasons why UCLA was the original hotbed of the Student's Movement but didn't amount to anything permanent; while there's currently a burgeoning Mindfulness Movement. An important factor is the restrictive nature of who can become a teacher. Any psychiatrist at UCLA can put a feather in his cap by becoming a Mindfulness teacher, without any fuss from a corrupt organization. This will add to his/her prestige since knowledge of Mindfulness gives one the appearance of inside knowledge into the inscrutable and mysterious ways of Eastern traditions. Unfortunately, they leave out the transcendentalist part. I'll dig deeper into this by contacting some of the faculty. Yes, and by our experience and by the composite of quite a lot of good science we know that numbers of people meditating and proximity does matter in the Meissner-like transformational effect of groups meditating. Someone just sent me a chart from another new study on this. This ill-advise ‘non-localized’ comment from leadership just works against what is in the works of the movement right now and yet gives people codling excuse to sit back and be ill-disciplined when they could be helping by being in a group meditation. Yes, of necessity people’s circumstance may vary but movement policy has been splitting and bifurcating on this, eroding what transformational effect has been here. Hence, the Dome numbers (218 in the men’s Dome this morning) being what they are. This is an administrative failure of the program. People once could come to Fairfield, Iowa and be part of something larger. Below are listed the twelve steps for performing the Surya Namaskar, including the "Astanga Pranam" asana position five. It's not complicated, although some yoga teachers like to make it so by adding some extra steps along with breathing techniques and bija mantras for each position. You seem to be having difficulty with this exercise so I've prepared this simplified routine for rounding and as an warm-up exercise before beginning hatha yoga in preparation for deep meditation: Get down on your hands and knees and pray; repeat the mantra: "Om Surya Namah". The important point is try to make a mood of being humble, giving thanks to God for sustaining creation. Of course, practicing under a teacher is always best, such as the Mahesh Yogi or Yogi Bhajan. Good luck and good fortune in your pursuit of enlightenment! Note: For older folks, or those with an infirmity or limited range of motion, getting down on one knee is considered almost as efficacious. "Yes" what? You didn't answer my question. I understand, of course, that group program is said to be more powerful (including by King Tony, below--"this is the greatest strength"). What I *don't* understand is why people who can't make it to a group program should not be told, as King Tony did, to coordinate their individual program so as to fly at the same time as in group program. Also, I don't think it helps the movement's "transformation" to try to make people feel guilty if they can't get to a group program. That's what I'm talking about! We moved up here to take car of Dad who has COPD and I've been observing animals and other creatures who live in the back yard out by the lake. Just today I witnessed a hummingbird attack another over access to the bird feeder. Yesterday a road runner was chased off by swallows. Then, just now a jack rabbit ran away from a barking dog. It's been raining here all morning and hundreds of birds are pecking at the ground terrorizing all kinds of insects. It's a war zone out there! We've got to do something to protect ourselves. I'm thinking about erecting a screened-in back porch so they can't get in. Well, this aught to be a good time for me to train my new Peregrine falcon.She
was breed in captivity and never had to kill to survive. I have to be her
parent and teach her. She just may go mid-evil under this influence. But I
think that's what nature is doing right now. New offspring are showing up and
predators are learning to feed. Thus the chaos at the bird feeders.

What I don't understand is why the rajas and other residents of Vedic City apparently don't meditate in the Patanjali Dome of Pure Knowledge. Where do they do program and do they do it alone, or with their family? Yes, there was specialness granted to sub-groups that sent people out. ..established program halls of which there are 11 (including the Domes) . The litany of this kind of bifurcation has bled the place. The anemia needs to stop and meditators should to come together. Numbers in proximity quite evidently need to be attended to now as part of a collective re-group in this period.
