the real changemakers—those who have found a radical way to improve the lives
of their friends, family, countrymen, and global family.
Changemakers, according to a recent New York Times article, are “people who
can see the patterns around them, identify the problems in any situation,
figure out ways to solve the problems, organize fluid teams, lead collective
action, and then continually adapt as the situations change.”

Humanitarian Father Gabriel Mejia and filmmaker David Lynch are two of the
speakers at ChangeMakers: Disruptors Transforming the World for Good April 6-7.

Young or old, we all benefit from having a clear purpose in life, a North Star
to guide us on our journey. Discovering and constantly refining this mission is
a lifelong quest that always unfolds new pathways and dimensions. Some
far-sighted visionaries have mastered this process in a way that benefits and
serves humanity. These are the real changemakers—those who have found a radical
way to improve the lives of their friends, family, countrymen, and global
family.

On April 6–7, leading changemakers will converge at a conference to explore
what it takes to make a difference on this planet. ChangeMakers: Disruptors
Transforming the World for Good, at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in
Fairfield, is the first event in a new Changemaking Series, hosted by MUM and
the David Lynch Foundation (DLF).

Changemakers, according to a recent New York Times article, are “people who can
see the patterns around them, identify the problems in any situation, figure
out ways to solve the problems, organize fluid teams, lead collective action,
and then continually adapt as the situations change.”

Each of the guest speakers in the ChangeMakers conference—including filmmaker
David Lynch, MoveOn.org http://MoveOn.org’s Laura Dawn, and former Army Ranger
Dusty Baxley—is an individual who perceived a clear need in their environment
and disrupted the status quo to find solutions.

Delivering the keynote address will be Father Gabriel Mejia from Colombia.
Father Gabriel found his own mission at age 37 when he saw the streets of
Medellin filled with unwanted children, the so-called “disposable ones.” As a
man filled with love and the unbounded energy to change lives, he responded by
creating the city’s first shelter, a sanctuary for children to find a good meal
and a safe place to sleep. Thirty years later, his Hogares Claret Foundation
runs 52 such centers that have rescued and restored dignity to over 100,000
children and young adults.

Father Gabriel has been responsible for rescuing over 100,000 children from the
streets of Medellin and establishing dozens of orphanages in Colombia that use
innovative therapies to turned damaged children into responsible young adults.

“The basic therapy is love,” Father Gabriel says. “Love is powerful medicine
for any illness or disorder. When a child feels he is welcome, when a child
feels educators are concerned about him . . . they change. The child changes.”

Iconic filmmaker David Lynch demonstrates that artists also serve as
changemakers. In addition to his boundary-breaking career as a director, Lynch
created the David Lynch Foundation 13 years ago to help ease the epidemic of
trauma and stress among at-risk populations by teaching these groups
Transcendental Meditation (TM). Lynch’s deepest desire was to “ensure that any
child anywhere in the world who wanted to learn to meditate could do so.”
Through benefit events featuring high-profile celebrities such as Paul
McCartney, Ringo Starr, Hugh Jackman, Jerry Seinfeld, and Katy Perry, the
foundation has raised funds to teach TM to over 500,000 students, veterans with
PTSD, and survivors of abuse. David will lead a session via Skype exploring his
changemaking process both as an artist and through the work of his foundation.

Laura Dawn is a powerhouse changemaker who is a founding member of political
action group MoveOn.org http://MoveOn.org. Dawn has spent the last decade
leading groundbreaking cultural campaigns that garnered over 500 million online
views. Her forte is creating viral content and organizing high-level
collaborations between renowned artists and grassroots activists to spur action
for social change. She is joined by her partner and cocreator Daron

[FairfieldLife] Fwd: Politics: Know anyone who....?

2018-04-03 Thread Dick Mays dickm...@lisco.com [FairfieldLife]
>From Fairfield’s Julie Mandarino:

I’ve been concerned about the divisiveness in our country. One friend referred
to it as a civil war. Although that seems rather extreme, my current interest
is on finding ways to bridge the gap. To that end, I’ve become part of a group
that promotes dialogue between Liberals and Conservatives, or Blues and Reds.

The group started when a marriage therapist viewed the political divide in our
country as akin to a couple on the brink of divorce. He trained some colleagues
in group facilitation and went around the country leading groups of an equal
number of Reds and Blues. The outcome was good enough that some other people
have taken off with the idea. By now, they have a national organization which
they call “Better Angels” (not my favorite name).

You may be wondering, why am I writing to you? Apparently there are very few
people in Iowa who have joined this organization (a total of 3, i think,
including me). They contacted me to ask if I know any Reds in my area who might
want to participate. Do you know any who might be interested in a
structured, bi-partisan dialogue? If you do, feel free to forward this email to
them, and they can then contact me about it.

Here is a link about the group that I posted on FB last week, in case anyone
wants to know a bit more about it:

If you have any suggestions or thoughts, I’d love to hear them.

Thanks,

[FairfieldLife] Re: Jerry's Stats

2018-04-03 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Within a couple of years of this 1975 report, Jerry and others were out as
that epoch ended in a great leap forward with ‘teams of four’ sent out usurping
what was a then honed teaching organization. Thence in metrics TM in the
1980’s and 1990’s under a Morris-Patterson era of administration effectively
disappeared from popular culture. By y-2006 initiations in the USA were running
less than 200 per month and most assets of the teaching movement had been sold
off. From 2006 others have struggled with what was in place to re-inflate
something that was TM. Jai Guru Dev.

In Honor of Our Dear Jerry Jarvis

Dear Governors,

It is with heartfelt love and fondest memories that we announce the sudden
passing of dear Jerry Jarvis on Wednesday afternoon, at his Malibu home. In
honor of Jerry and in lieu of flowers, we are pleased to announce a special
fund to support Debby, his loving, devoted wife.

September 1961

In September of 1961, Jerry and Debby were instructed by Maharishi, and, after
their first experience of the Transcendent, knew that the direction of their
lives was forever transformed. They immediately began to study and work with
Maharishi, helping him to create and grow the U.S. and international TM®
organizations.

Science of Being and Art of Living

Jerry and Debby went on to become TM teachers in 1966 in Rishikesh, India. Both
former journalists for the Congressional Quarterly, they later helped to
transcribe and edit Maharishi’s Science of Being and Art of Living and his
translation and commentary on the Bhagavad-Gita. Over the next decade and a
half, Jerry rose to become the national leader of the TM organization in the
U.S., and was instrumental in developing over 400 TM Centers, which brought the
TM technique to more than one million Americans.

Maharishi’s quest to spiritually regenerate the world

The story of Maharishi’s worldwide movement is the cosmic, eternal story of the
unfoldment of pure knowledge. And there is perhaps no part of this
ever-evolving story that is more beloved than the early days, when Maharishi
first set out alone on his worldwide quest to spiritually regenerate the world.
It was Jerry’s extraordinary heart and naturally wise and mature guidance that
played such a vital role in shepherding the many newly trained, youthful TM
teachers at this early stage of Maharishi’s quickly growing organization.

Our precious times with Jerry, his ever-present, bright, shining face, and the
many wondrous, heartfelt stories, life-lessons, and beautiful examples of
purity and devotion will always be a cherished part of our TM organization’s
history.

Archives and special manuscripts of Maharishi that were donated by Jerry and
Debby will become an invaluable treasure at MUM. Once these materials are
sorted and curated, they will be available to Meditators, Sidhas, and Governors
everywhere.

A passion for Maharishi’s knowledge

In addition to his enduring love for Debby, there was nothing that Jerry felt
more passionate about than Maharishi’s knowledge. His commitment to Pure
Knowledge took several forms: from personal study and scholarly research, to
Advanced Lectures on Maharishi Vedic Science, and his transformational courses
on Maharishi’s translation and commentary on the Bhagavad-Gita, which he shared
with so many over the decades.

A very special memorial service for Jerry is being organized in California for
early April. We hope that many will also be able to connect online. (Details to
come.)

We send our deepest love and appreciation to his beloved Debby, who has been
such a source of nourishment and wisdom for Jerry and all of us for more than
50 years.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Susan Shumsky insider book

2018-04-03 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
As I recall, Susan was the administrative ‘course office’ person on my teacher
training course with Maharishi in La Antilla, Spain. The course fee was to be
$1,100 for the three months course but When our group of a thousand or more
arrived there in Spain to register we were told we needed to pay up another
$110 then to be on the course (1973 dollars).
Folks were pretty upset and she was the spokesperson for a series of meetings
with people about this. She was the iron lady of deflection brought up to the
podium on behalf of the movement standing ground then in these meetings. The
meetings and rancor went on for some time with Susan being the person dealing
with it from the microphone and at one point Curly Smith, a teacher in those
days from out West, a big handsome guy, strode across on stage to the
microphone and speaking without any dispute declared directly to the group,
“Look, we raised it $110 because we figured we could not get any more out of
you.” The honest statement right then put an end to the discussion and the
course went on from there. Jai Guru Dev.
