I didn't mean to; I wanted to know why the Talmud (or Torah? I
forget which by now) was invoked...was it the name or the law-
intensive nature of it...

It is indeed.

But your question did sound as though you thought
Wayback's putative assumption could have been
anti-Semitic.

I took it as a compliment, myself.

Don't be so defensive.

Just because one assumes someone is Jewish doesn't automatically
make them anti-semitic.

I think Judy would concur with this: if she has spent a lifetime
having people assume she is Jewish because of her last name (and, in
some cases, her first name) doesn't mean this people were anti-
semites.

Is this correct, Judy, regarding your experience?

On another point: "s/he". It has happened to me quite often on
these internet exchanges that one doesn't know the gender of the
person one is dialoging with and I have make the WRONG assumption
about gender. Somehow this did change my perception of the person
after I learned their real gender.

Sal's name is a good example. I know she is a woman now but
originally I thought "Sal" was short for "Salvatore" and that she
was a he.

You'd be surprised how often people assume I'm Jewish from
my name--one of the regular participants on this forum, in
fact, has done so (and in a rather obnoxious context, as it
happens).

As to "Judy," the full name, "Judith," means "Jewish woman."
So it's actually quite a reasonable assumption, and I'll bet
my name *was* why Wayback suggested Torah study.

That's why I'm asking because the name CAN be from a variety of
cultures.

Judy is NOT Jewish (but, as she indicated once on amt is often
mistaken as Jewish), so why did the poster suggest the Torah? Why
not the New Testament?

I thought: was it because the poster considered Judy to be so
detailed and lawyer-like in her posts that he felt it would behoove
her to study the very elaborate, very law-like Torah...or...was it
because the poster assumed she was Jewish?

Makes about as much sense as your asking Way if he suggested reading the Torah because her last name was Stein, as that last name can come from a variety of cultures, not just Jewish.

As long as their phoniness is harming only
themselves, just leave 'em be, I say.

Because I think malignant phonies need to be exposed
and scorned.

That would be nice, but it's not my goal.

Perhaps along the lines of Typhoid Mary.

I'm a more practical kind of gal.

Thanks for the kind words, though.

I admit that I don't read more than 20%, at most, of Barry's posts (I don't
have time to read
that much of FFL, so anyone who posts a great deal gets skipped by me). Perhaps
I have
missed all sorts of nasty stuff from him. But if you find them to be so

After all this
time, are your efforts "improving" Barry, in your opinion? Bottom line, I
admire your
intellect and highly developed ability to discriminate - but the focus on Barry
seems pretty
intense and narrow and implies that he a lot of power and importance, to you.
In my

[FairfieldLife] Cyberstalker stats redux (was Re: Donovan last night) :-)

2006-03-29 Thread Robert Gimbel
 (snip)
On the topic of "Some People Are Too Insane
To Notice They're Insane, Much Less Change,"

One of the basic principles of the 12-step programs:

The ability to recognizing insanity; by seeing the pattern in another.

There's usually enough sychronicity in the group;
That one hears someone's 'story'; and identifies with it;
And then objectively recognizes the insanity within themselves;
Or delusional thinking, or whatever you want to call it:
Stuck energy, old tapes, veil, mask, false self..

Becoming aware of your own insanity is transformational.

And I don't think untruthfulness, illogic, and hypocrisy
belong in "normal" conversation, especially when they're

Incorrect.

Number of posts to Fairfield Life: 6

Number of those posts that were
intended to harass Barry: 3

Percentage of posting time spent
obsessing on Barry:50%

And here are Barry's corresponding stats:

Number of posts to Fairfield Life: 8

Number of those posts that were
intended to harass Judy: 4

Percentage of posting time spent
obsessing on Judy:50%

Number of times Barry has replied to
Judy, has responded to any of her
insults, or has even mentioned her
since March 14, 2006, when he vowed
to ignore Judy completely until March
31:4

Percentage of Barry's posts concerning
Judy obsessing on how many posts Judy
has made since then concerning him: 100%

Is that a large enough sampling to be statistically significant? I think you
need to track her over the next several months, with double-blind control
groups, adjusting for weather variations, economic fluctuations,
disturbances in the earth's electromagnetic field, etc.

[FairfieldLife] Cyberstalker stats redux (was Re: Donovan last night) :-)

2006-03-29 Thread wayback71
My suggestion for Judy - go to law school or at least take some classes in a
law school. Or
get a job as a paralegal. You would be great at that- a real asset to any
legal endeavor.
But that kind of analysis and detailed nitpicking does not really belong in
normal
conversation. I think it is too much even for a chat room. The result is that
your (Judy's)
posts are genenerally ignored, despite the excellent content of the ones I
occasionally
read. No one wants to overhear another couple's arguments, especially if they
go on and
on and on. Correcting another person's choice of words or thought processes is
irritating
to those listening in, and never changes the "guilty" person, even if they
could change. Use
your fine intellect for more meaningful stuff.

On the topic of "Some People Are Too Insane
To Notice They're Insane, Much Less Change,"
in the 24 hours since it was revealed that
Judy spends at least 50% of her posting time
on FFL obsessing on Barry, here's how she's
done since then:

Number of posts to Fairfield Life: 6

Number of those posts that were
intended to harass Barry:4

Percentage of posting time spent
obsessing on Barry: 67%

In other words, Judy's obsession is getting
worse, not better. At this rate, within a
week she'll be up to doing nothing on FFL
*but* trying to insult me. Vaj, eat your
heart out...you just ain't got enough Shiva
Shakti to attract the *real* groupies. :-)
