dec24_hh_speech.html

SRI SWAMIJI'S DATTA JAYANTI SPEECH ON 24.12.2004 AT 12PM
For many, spiritual interest is the last resort when nothing works out. Though
it is
unfortunate, it is true. Imagine this. When a person is dying, we try all
methods to revive
his life. We give him oxygen, we give shock treatment to revive his life. Many
people
entertain the feeling that going to a temple, God or Sadguru should be the
last resort
when all else have failed. We think that we are too busy for any spiritual
practices in life.
Getting spiritual or religious in the last days of your life is of no use. It
is like pushing a
dying wick in a oil lamp further to squeeze the last strains of oil left in it.
It is futile. Many
feel that they are very good to society and that their ancestors built a
temple, which will
help the generations to come. Some also get ego by studying some books. Ego is
the
greatest stumbling block., The cause of ego could be education, haughtiness or
false
pride. Sadguru never misleads you. HE will only ask you to follow the good
tenets of life
like truthfulness, being good to others etc., Apart from this there is one very
important
thing. In spite of having everything in life, one occasionally feels empty.
This empty feeling
can be quite nagging. It can be psychologically damaging. Unfortunately most
people have
one another problem. That is wanting more. If you have money, you want even
more. If
you have a contended family, you want even more happiness. Doubts persist about
Guru,
Vedanta and spirituality. But you try to display a gait that you do not have
any doubts. But
when alone, the mind gets tired by this nagging emptiness. All this emptiness
is there
because you have no patience to do any spiritual practice with implicit faith
and
truthfulness.

We also are restless. We get restless when there are no spicy news on the TV.
It is not
good for health at all. You should not seek horrific news. In Europe, the
garbage bin is
quite ornamental and comafoulaged. People are driven to use it. But we have
over spilling
garbage bins, spreading the bad odor all around. Who goes there to use it?
Nobody! The
very purpose is lost. Like you clean your teeth everyday, you should also clean
your shoes,
the garbage bin etc., Don't you still brush your teeth in the morning after
eating Tirupati
Laddus the previous night? Do you fear that the good Blessings it brought to
you gets
washed away? No.

Imagine this. You have a cow. You clean the cow everyday. You milk the cow. The
vessel is
yours. Don't you wash that vessel everyday? In spite of being the owner of the
cow, the
vessel etc., you still wash the vessel just to make sure that the milk does not
get decayed.
Like wise, In spite of having your own mind, you should still clean it
everyday. For such
activity, you should read Dattatreya story daily. He learnt from all types of
Gurus. From
snakes, women, from a bee etc., It is not a story. It is a guide for daily
life. Because he
Blessed us with such information, he is Guru for Devathas, for Manavaas.
Everyday is Datta
Jayanti. Even after become greatly educated, you must always remember that
there is a
invisible energy that is helping you. We follow Sadguru to help us understand
that invisible
energy. One you understand, you will be full of bliss. I am not saying you
should never get
doubts. All I am saying is that you should not search for doubts. All it needs
from you is
little bit of patience. You would not have got the doubt, if there were no
answer for it. It
has come because there is an answer for it. Everything is planned by that
invisible energy.
If we acknowledge our existence to that energy humbly and truthfully, you will
be a
winner. We all are puppets in the hands of that energy.

You may believe it or not. You may have suspicion or not. But believe me.
DATTATREYA is
the GREATEST.

Dattatreya is not a story. Dattatreya is discovering your self. Dattatreya is
self-surrender.
Dattatreya is not Panchamrita Abhisheka. We do it to gain concentration. Puja
is level one.
It is like the foundation for a house. We do it daily till death to ensure that
the monkey
mind does not trouble you.

Look at a horse man in Mysore city. They have a humble and weak horse and take
people
in carriages around the city. He has a whip in his right hand, he holds the
reins in his left
hand and makes strange grunting noises from the bottom of his stomach. He and
the
horse can understand that communication. I want you all to write an essay
explaining what
it means. Do it.

[FairfieldLife] Datta Jayanthi message about Goodness and Humanism

2005-12-13 Thread hanumanhoffman9

SRI SWAMIJI'S MESSAGE First Day message of Datta Jayanthi 1998

* Conquer fear :
Sri Swamiji recited a Sanskrit sloka and explained its meaning in detail as
follows:

Life is difficult, old age is difficult, childhood is difficult. It is
difficult to face the various
problems arising out of the government as aslos one's desires. Illness and
diseases cause
difficulties. Hunger is more difficult to bear.
Singing another song, Sri Swamiji described the problems of life and suggested
a way out
as follows:
Oh! God of gods! I am afraid of the ocean of worldiness with deceit as its
water and
relations as the crocodiles. I am unable to understand the treacherous ways of
the world.
The pongs of birth and the problems of childhood are unbearable.
Oh! Datta, kindly enlighten me with an easy way out of this devil. Enable me to
realise the
oneness of you and me i.e. bestow salvation's to me. I am helpless, please
protect me. Oh
Sadguru! guide me as compass. This bhajan is like an Upanishad. The entire
concept of
spiritualism is contained in it in a nutshell. It is easy to understand.

* Bheeja akshara :
Reciting the second verse Sri Swamiji revealed its meaning as follows:

The huge tree exists unmanifested in a seed. It manifests if the seed is worn
in earth and
if due care is taken to nurture the plant. Similarly the power of the bheeja
akshara - seed
leeter manifests by japa(repetition) of the divine name in a proper way with
tapt attention,
firm faith and deep devotion.
Elaborating the significance of bheej akshara(seed letter) Sri Swamiji sang a
bhajn and
explained its meaning :Bheeja askhara is the genesis of the entire creation. It
is permanent
and immortal. It uplifts the people who are shackled by the bondage's of the
world. Sages
attained supernatural powers and became famous only by repetition of mantra
consisting
of bheeja akshara. These powerful seed letters were bestowed by Lord Siva in
his cosmic
dance. Bheeja akshara is colorful i.e. it has multi faceted brilliance. Another
form of bheeja
askhara is Nada - the divine sound given out in various forms like mantras and
epics by
the noble sages for human well being.
Om indicates the supreme lord
Gam indicates Ganapathi
Nam indicates Supreme
Kleem indicates Kalika Devi
Dram indicates Datta

* Right path
Reciting a Sanskrit sloka, Sri Swamiji explained its meaning as follows:

Whether scholars praise or blame, whether prosperity comes or goes, whether
death
occurs today itself or after many decades the really heroic people do not go
astray even a
bit from the right path.
Conveying the same message, Sri Swamiji sang a song and described the attitude
of a
person of firm faith and staunch devotion as follows:
It is due to the effect of meritorious and pious deeds of their past birth that
some people
continue to be firmly devoted to god, whatever be the difficulties or losses
that may occur.
Great souls like Dhruva, Prahalada of ancient ages and Meera, Avvayyar always
of recent
times are grand examples of firm faith and devotion to god. Only due to the
such pious
people, righteous continue to flourish in the world even now. They are so much
attached
to the spirit of pure love of god that their fumness is unshakable - whether
all the
relativesdisource them, whether friends and sons leave them, whether the entire
world
heckles them, whether great grief affects them, whether they fall sick or even
if they do
not have any yoga.
All the difficulties arise due to desires. Problems are caused by the world and
worldiness.
Too much eating results in stomach pain. Hearing something evil, as a practice
causes lack
of mental peace, it upsets the mind. The more one tries to contact the senses
by force, the
more unruly they become. Hence adopt proper diet to chasten the tongue. Listen
to
bhajans, bhagavad gita and such sacred literature to purify the ear. Instead of
forceful
control, divert and properly channelise your powers of senses. Exhort your
senses "Don't
deceive me". By continuous satsang - linking our mind and senses by something
noble,
one can be purified. The devotion should be firm and continuos.

* Guru Deepa - Sadgur's light divine
In the fourth topic Sri Swamiji explained the meaning of a Sanskrit sloka :

I prostrate and surrender to Datta, who shines in the core of my heart like a
bright light
who removes the darkness of my egoism and worldly attachments, who wipes out t
all
miseries of my life, who is pervasive in all my nerves and who always enrgises
them and
who resides in the lotus of my heart in the exquisitely fine form of my guru,
the perfect
master.
Dining deeper into the significance of this song, we observe the gradual
development in
the path divine one can experience this:
1. Meditate upon the divine light in Anahata chakra - the spiritual center in
the core of
heart.
2. Then the brilliance spreads out to all the other chakras - the spiritual
center, With the

SRI DATTA JAYANTHI CELEBRATIONS

Sunday,14/12/97

Photos of Various events of this day

Sri Swamiji conducted Sri Chakra Puja and Ganapati Homa as usual in the
morning. Then
Sahasra Kalasa Tailabishekam was performed to Kalagni Shamana Datta in the
temple of
the Ashrama. Following the Pavana Homa and Datta Homa were performed. Many
people
participated in the Anagha Vratam.

The following message was given by Sri Swamiji.

We are all tiny specks of the Universal Lord - Paramatma. Though He is unseen,
He is
invisible. His magnanimity is beyond our comprehension. We have drifted far,
far away
from him. No doubt we are precious, being tiny specks of the Supreme Lord. We
are like
various precious Ornaments glued to something impure, something undesirable.
Seeing
our sorry state, our miserable condition, the merciful Lord came down to uplift
us, to
rescue us in the form of Dattatreya, the unique spiritual master of all times.
He is an
expert goldsmith. He can remove the dirt and impurities of the ornament,
without spoiling
it in any way. He makes it fit for decoration of the Lord. This means he
purifies and guides
us properly to rejoin the supreme Lord.
A capable master and a patient disciple - this is a fine combination.
Dattatreya is an
expert spiritual master. He is the perfect master. Less efficient goldsmiths
spoil the
ornament. Datta does his job thoroughly well. He is the Guru not only for
humans, but
also to celestials and demons. What?! - Guru for even demons? Yes! He slowly
transforms
the demons and leads them to the right path. A real Jnani, knower, does not
boast of
himself. Whoever makes such an announcement is a cheat. By Guru's grace the
disciple
gets salvation in a subtle way, even unknowingly.
People are attached to worldliness, that is the cause of their misery. Sadguru
cleanses us
by making us perform different rituals properly. Contemplate on the divine play
of Datta.
Study Jnana Vasishta, which deals with the principle of renunciation.
Datta is the trinity in one - Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva in one form. He directed
sages to
perform Pavamana Homa, which removes sins, and bestows peace and plenty.

All the Devotees were enchanted in the musical discourse in the evening. The
following is
His message.

I. Datta's protection

Swamiji explained the meaning of Sanskrit Sloka. He recited thus:

"His Body is still as He is in ecstasy. However, He moves about daily in
several subtle forms
to protect and guide his disciples everywhere. Hence I surrender to Datta, who
is both,
moving and unmoving. Datta's only mission is to uplift the disciples."

Sri Swamiji rendered a song emphasizing the protective power of Datta (Jaya
janavana
chitta).

II.
"Generally people say that they are fighting for peace, even at the cost of
life. This is self-
contradictory. Who can a battle cause peace? Our thoughts and words and deeds
should
not hurt others, no insult or injury should be caused to others by our
behavior. Before you
aim at world peace attempt at inner peace of mind yourself. Then there will be
world
peace. What all we do at home generally causes tension and worry. You behave in
peaceful
way with you friends and relatives. The way you keep your things, books,
clothes, utensils
in your room and home should be neat and proper. This brings in peace of mind
and
peace at home. Gradually the peace spreads around."
Swamiji sang one sloka and one bhajan conveying the above ideas.

III.
Swamiji sang a bhajan of Janardana part of Maharashtra and explained its
meaning.
" The saint sings the glory of Rama who is all pervasive. By singing the pious
qualities of
God again and again, one acquires such noble traits."

IV.

Swamiji rendered a bhajan and described its significance.
"Before one goes to bed, one must analyze the mistakes committed in the day.
Seek God's
pardon with repentance. Do not feel proud of good achievements. Thank God.
Think of
God just on getting. People convince themselves for their mistakes. No mistake
can be
committed in secrecy, you cannot hide anything wrong. The five elements of
nature, sun,
moon, etc. are witnessing your deeds. Even if others point out, some adamant
people
don't repent, they do not apologize. This is wrong. Whatever good or bad we do
-
everything is recorded by Chitragupta, the celestial accountant of sin and
merit. You
cannot deceive him. Some people do many good things, but a single big mistake
overshadows what all good they have done. Self-analysis enables them to correct
themselves.
Early in the morning, more so before sunrise, the mind will be pure and active.
For
spiritual practice, music practice or studies this is the most preferable
period. Gradually
the mind gets tired with the passage of daytime. Mind is affected by the heat
and strain of
the day. Hence, utilize the dawn and early morning daily in a purposeful way.
Sound sleep
is very essential for good health. One must go to
