[FairfieldLife] Machinelike or Random?

2015-02-02 Thread jason_gre...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]

This is a little difficult to explain, but I'll try.

When you perform an action, the karmic rebound is certain.
However, when, where and how that rebound will occur cannot
be predicted as existence itself does not know about it.
There is an element of randomness here that is difficult to
comprehend and is unexplainable.

If you study evolution carefully, you will notice that
evolution itself is partially deterministic and partially
random. There is a broad set of laws and yet randomness
plays a part.

Is that feeling correct, or is it based on some hidden assumption which allows
you accept a falsehood.

Sam Harris does not ascribe to the notion of free will and he may even reject
the idea of determinism as well. What we have is a free will not to be
determined - that's where the siddha yoga comes in. A siddha is free from karma
due to his or her will power to rise above duality.

The siddhi in its pure form means the attainment of flawless identity with
Reality (Brahman); perfection of Spirit. In South India, a siddha refers to a
being who has achieved a high degree of physical as well as spiritual
perfection or enlightenment.

You really can't have it both ways, Share. We are either free or we are
bound. If free, then there would be no reason to employ a yoga; if bound, by
what means can we free ourselves?

Based on the theory of karma we all get our due based on the idea that whatever
goes up must come down. There's no human levitation because that would negate
the law of karma, cause and effect. So, we are bound by the physical laws of
causation - this applies to everyone in the physical as well as the mental
world (samkaras) of human existence.

We are what we were. This law applies to everyone without exception.

The only way to be free is to be able to transcend the physical world of matter
and our own mental preoccupations. In order to free oneself, you must go beyond
mind and intellect and experience the pure consciousness (samadhi). The path
from suffering is the introduction of the pure consciousness thru yoga.

To rise above (siddhi) the limitations of name and form and *isolate* the
Purusha. Otherwise, you are bound to suffer in this world by the mere fact of
being born, living, age and death - nobody gets out of here alive, but yogis
enjoy.

That is of course Share, a logical contradiction; hence, false. A statement
like this acts as a metaphor for a certain way of understanding how the
universe runs, provided you can penetrate the metaphor for its real
significance. What has determinism? What has free will? Since they are
diametrically opposed in function, what could this mean, if it means anything
at all? Since the statement is literally untrue, why does it feel right to you?
Is that feeling correct, or is it based on some hidden assumption which allows
you accept a falsehood.

Xeno, I don't understand it as a statement of logic. I understand it as a koan,
a statement meant to take the mind beyond logic to a deeper truth. I find there
is a level of life where all contradictions exist together. It is beyond
thought and feeling. I sometimes call it knowingness, but resonance might be a
more descriptive word.
