When London was attacked in early July I mentioned that at least we 
didn't have to contend with "forces of nature", like the US typically 
has to deal with. Unfortunately what has happened recently has been way 
beyond the "normal" forces of nature, and I am very sorry to hear of 
the devastation and suffering that has happened in NO and elsewhere.

MMY's recent comment on these events was to remind America and Bush on 
the "As you sow so shall you reap" message in the Bible. I think the 
TMO should therefore be shaking in its boots, as it has sown rather a 
lot of unintelligent, inefficient, un-compassionate etc karma in the 
last couple of decades. I guess Holland is not unlike New Orleans in 
its physical vulnerability and we may well see a similar "backlash" 
from Nature there in the near future.

Mind you, I've now come to seriously question the "intelligence" 
and "compassion" of Nature, so this justified "punishment" (of the TMO)
may not happen after all. But then most of history is about people who 
have thrived from exterminating others in horrible ways, so what the 
hell..

I could provide more, but what's the point? The similarity
in posting styles is established.

NOW, what I find myself wondering about is whether this 
similarity is a case of "nature" or "nurture." That is, 
were both of these individuals predisposed to be arrogant, 
condescending assholes, or did TM make them that way?

It's a viable question. Both display the same or similar 
behavior when their holy word is questioned. Both are *very*
gullible, in that they take the word of the people they con-
sider "experts" and never even *consider* verifying what was
told to them. Off believes all the propaganda he was told by
the Shotokan karate folks *and* the TMO, and Judy believes
most of the propaganda told to her by the TMO, or by liberal
sources she reads on the Internet or in the papers. Hell,
Judy even feels capable of commenting on movies she's never
*seen* (such as "Apocalypto" and "Inland Empire"), based on
stuff that she's read about them or been told about them.

So if it's a case of "nurture," then I guess we might indeed
be justified in looking at the one common denominator between
them -- TM and the conditioning one receives in the TMO -- as
a possible cause. Are *other* long-term TMers prone to these
types of behavior? You decide.

On the other hand, if it's a case of "nature," and both of
these individuals were just *born* like this, then I propose
an interesting experiment. Let's mate the two of them and
analyze their offspring. If it's really a case of "nature,"
their kids should be:

* arrogant as hell
* convinced that they are right about everything
* convinced that anyone who disagrees with them is not
only wrong but stupid
* able to ignore any facts that suggest that they might
be mistaken about something
* compulsive about being "taken seriously"
* terrified of being laughed at
* prone to lashing out at anyone who fails to take them
seriously, or worse, laughs at them
* given to suggesting that there is something "wrong" 
with anyone who disagrees with them
* likely to die believing the same things they believe 
today, without ever having learned anything else during
the rest of their lives

Sounds like the start of a new "master race" to me. 
Not to mention perfect fodder for being even further 
"nurtured" by the TMO.

Dear Friends,

The story summarized below as it was presented in the "Family chat" of
Maharishi channel (link given), was something I remember very well.
Maharishi said in December 1977: "There is an iron sward hanging on a
silken
thread over Germany, every Meditator of Germany should go and learn the
Sidhis and Yogic flying in the course organized in Fehman."

The only fact we heard in the news were that the Warsaw Pact nations
were doing maneuver in
East Germany. An other fact was, that up to 31st December it was a very
mild
winter with temperatures above 10. '

What surprisingly happened was a sudden
snow fall and drastic drop of temperature on 31st and it turned into a
natural catastrophy, people even died on the high ways as they got stuck
and
froze to death. That was all going on during the course that started
around
Christmas.

Maharishi like every year went into his annual silence from 31st
night to 7th Jan. night. When he came out the first thing he asked was
about
the course in Fehmarn. We replied: That yes its doing well, so many
started
flying etc. but there was extreme cold wave hitting north Europe.
Maharishi:
"We changed a world catastrophy into a nature catastrophy."

Only later, when the German Magazine Spiegel published a report that the
maneuver
of the Warsaw Pact was in fact a planned attack we understood the full
picture.

How many times has the world come close to nuclear war—and how many
times has the danger been inexplicably averted, and by what means? The
Administrator of the Global Country of World Peace
  for Germany, spoke
of dramatic events in December, 1978—which became a turning point in
history, leading ultimately to the peaceful unification of Europe. But
they began by moving in the opposite direction, he said: a deliberate
march over the precipice to nuclear war.

He began* by explaining that 'Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
 , Founder of the Transcendental Meditation Programme
  and the Global Country of World Peace, dedicated
1978 as the Year of Invincibility for Every Nation.' This was the height
of the Cold War, and Germany was a potential battlefield between Warsaw
Pact countries and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).

In July 1978, the largest military maneuvers since World War II took
place in East and West Germany. Soviet submarines were frequently
sighted in the Baltic Sea, but most people went about their lives
without much alarm, he recalled.

However, 'Maharishi saw the imminent danger, and made it very clear that
the survival of Germany was at stake,' the Administrator said.
'Maharishi created a course—Centre Invincibility Course for the
Survival of Germany. That was the official name.'

The course began in October 1978. Approximately 1,500 people in Germany
and neighboring countries applied for the course to learn the
Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme
 , an advanced
programme for those already practising Transcendental Meditation.

The Administrator continued, 'At Christmastime, Maharishi called all the
course participants together, to the island of Fehmarn in the Baltic
Sea, to learn Yogic Flying
 , the
''super technology of Invincibility  ''.

'Maharishi's knowledge has two aspects: individual consciousness and
collective consciousness,' he explained. 'Two hundred fifty thousand
Germans know how beautiful it is to transcend, to experience inner bliss
and calmness. But the collective influence of their meditation, and
especially group practise of Yogic Flying, creates a peaceful influence
for 80 million people of Germany. It's a gift from Nature.'

* This report was originally featured in Global Good News on 15 December

Part II of this series featured an account of what happened next, as the
historic events of December 1978 in Cold War Germany continued to
unfold—and the powerful coherence

Reminds me of the Mean Green Meme, a type of developmental delay  
common in Boomers who often get stuck at Green. One style of glitch  
that we see when people reach the Green Meme level of development and  
have it stall due to pathology is the "I've found a new paradigm and  
it's THE paradigm, THE ultimate, the "purity of the tradition has  
been restored"." "surface pluralism hides a deep absolutism, just as  
their surface kindness hides deep contempt. Hence, what they most  
despise in others--their absolutism, their universalism, their  
contemptuous tone--is that which they are secretly doing themselves:  
the key to all shadow projections."


In this instance the technical name for this might be "Boomeritis  
Hinduism" or simply "Boomeritis Commercial Meditation system".

Nature Reserve donated to Maharishi  Institute in  Johannesburg
 A 4,500 hectare nature reserve has recently  been donated to the
Maharishi Institute in Johannesburg. The reserve,  located about an hour
and a half from Johannesburg city, was donated  by world class
environmental conservatives, Nicky and Strilli  Oppenheimer. Nicky
Oppenheimer is Chairman of one of the largest  diamond mining companies
in the world and together his wife Strilli  have created 'The Diamond
Route' and other organizations to promote  ecology, heritage and
eco-tourism on properties surrounding their  mines. The Ezemvelo Nature
reserve will be used by the Maharishi  Institute to run eco-tourism
programmes and operate an Eco Campus  where students will study nature
conservation, eco-tourism management,  organic agriculture and
alternative energy. A Centre of Excellence in  Natural-Law Based
Education will also be established to provide  educational programmes,
exhibitions, a health spa and courses in  Transcendental Meditation. The
Oppenheimers gift to the Maharishi  Institute was in recognition of the
Institutes'  'fantastic and  extraordinary work in offering
Consciousness-Based Education and free  tertiary education to
underprivileged young South Africans'.  The  Oppenheimers were honoured
in a grand celebration attended  by many guests, including Dr  Teddy
Bletcher, Director of Education for the Global Country of World  Peace
in South Africa and Director of the Maharishi Invincibility  Institute
and Raja Bob LoPinto, Raja of Invincible South Africa for  the Global

Nature sees no reason to investigate climate papers
Nature weighs in on the story of the emails stolen from East Anglia
University.

Even if it turned out that everything from the CRU were false,
it would not actually change the conclusions,
because it is only one source among many.

And, as the Nature editorial argues, there isn't much there
to suggest that the CRU's published works are false.





As has been well
  discussed
  on Ars, private e-mail from servers of
the Climate Research Unit were recently made public and, since then,
many people who were skeptical or dismissive of climate change have been
having a field day.


In these private conversations, the scientists revealed themselves to be
petty, vengeful, emotional, and, well, human.

Additionally, we see that science-in-process is a messy business with
many a prat-fall between inspiration and publication.


Unfortunately, the people most keen in analyzing these emails seem
unable to distinguish prat-falls, tests, mistakes, and just plain stupid
ideas from the actual research and data that emerged from the CRU as
published work. Now, although most of us realize this, the major
scientific publications are starting to weigh in with their take on the
whole affair.

The general consensus
  among
scientists  
is that the revelations don't change the science at all. The conclusions
about anthropogenic global warming are derived from multiple sources of
independent data and analysis.


Even if it turned out that everything from the CRU were false, it would
not actually change the conclusions, because it is only one source among
many. And, as the Nature editorial  
argues, there isn't much there to suggest that the CRU's published works
are false.

But—and the general thrust of the editorial in Nature supports
this—we have a disaster on our hands. Just as the world governments
appear to be showing a willingness to take action (and this is mostly
because the US government seemed to be about ready to play ball), anyone
seeking to avoid policy changes has been given more of a platform from
which to shout. And those people, including US Senator James Inhofe and
Saudi Arabian diplomats, have indeed latched onto the e-mails.

So, what appears to be happening is that documents that don't seem to
speak to the science are being used to derail an attempt to develop
policies that are based on the conclusions of the scientific community.
All in all, not a win for critical thinking.

Cool!  My brother in law GAVE me his old Ipad!  I had mentioned very casually 
to my half sister that I was thinking about buying one.  Then their son, my 
nephew gave me lessons.  I used it in the Detroit airport yesterday when my 
flight to Cedar Rapids, Iowa was delayed for an hour.


More support of Nature in that my plane reservations just happened to be for 
the window of relatively good weather yesterday.  

Anyway, it'll be GREAT to be back in the Dome (-:
