That's the problem: There's zero "controlled testing". Just another feeble attempt to prove the ME (The Maharishi - Effect, now called the Meissner-like effect.. I'm not saying there's no ME. It's simply beyond the capacity of modern science to measure it objectively. Correlation is not causation. How many times to people need to repeat that? From Wikipedia on the Maharishi Effect:: According to Hagelin, the analysis was examined by an "independent review board", although all members of the board were TM practitioners. Robert L. Park https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_L._Park, research professor and former chair of the Physics Department at the University of Maryland, called the study a "clinic in data distortion".[14] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hagelin#cite_note-Park2000pp29-31-14 In 1994 a science satire magazine, Annals of Improbable Research https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annals_of_Improbable_Research, "awarded" Hagelin the Ig Nobel Prize https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ig_Nobel_Prize for Peace, "for his experimental conclusion that 4,000 trained meditators caused an 18 percent decrease in violent crime in Washington, D.C."[34] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hagelin#cite_note-34[35] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hagelin#cite_note-35 In 1999 Hagelin held a press conference in Washington, D.C. to announce that the TM movement could end the Kosovo War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosovo_War with yogic flying. He suggested that NATO set up an elite corps of 7,000 yogic flyers at a cost of $33 million.[15] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hagelin#cite_note-Fox2005-15[36] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hagelin#cite_note-36 SHALOM

Yes, more controlled study is certainly needed to to drill down into understanding the Meissner-like effect mechanism of meditation. Healthy skepticism of the correlation hardly negates the certainty of the published research. Good independent observation though. Heroin use possibly may have more to do with the coming on of Mexican criminal production of new powerful synthetics then than meditation practice itself. The increase in heroin use/addiction during the test period may well show how incredibly corrosive drug use is in its countervalence of spirituality.. More controlled hypothesis testing of assertions needed. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com,wrote : "The study found that group practice of the Transcendental Meditation® and TM-Sidhi® program by participants in the Invincible America Assembly at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) was associated with a 20.6% reduction of US motor vehicle fatalities over the four-year period 2007–2010… From 2007–2010 the size of the group was above or near 1,725 participants, the size predicted to have a positive influence on the US quality of life…" Well, as far as initiation of heroin is concerned, it appears that during the years 2007 to 2010 (the years claimed that TM/Sidhi program was associated with a 20.6% reduction of vehicle fatalities), Total initiation of heroin by individuals peaked at its all-time highest over the period of 2002 to 2013. https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/report_1943/ShortReport-1943.pdf https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/report_1943/ShortReport-1943.pdf See Figure 2.
