IIRC, the event is a political fundraiser, hence the pricey tickets.

She had a jazz/blues style delivered in sort of a thin, wispy voice 
that I never found very interesting or compelling.  She had a couple of 
hits in the 70s and then pretty much disappeared as far as I know.
