My comment has nothing to do with intentions, but rather relates a few anecdotes about insiders wielding power. When they rise to the top, sometimes they surprise people by acting in ways contrary to the actions that got them into power in the first place. Chester A. Arthur was a machine politician who found himself president when James Garfield was assassinated. I found the following at http://www.americanpresident.org/history/chesterccrthur/ "As President, Arthur surprised everyone by acting independently, defying his state-based reputation as a slick machine politician who would advance the agenda of his own party faction and ignore the needs of the nation at-large. Domestic affairs dominated his presidency. In reforming civil service, Arthur supported the Pendleton Act, which attempted to counter patronage and cronyism by requiring competitive exams for government office. Specifically, the law banned salary kickbacks and ensured that promotion would be based on merit, not connections. While the Republican Party usually worked to protect big business and manufacturing, Arthur pushed for tariff reduction to relieve indebted farmers and middle-class consumers. He also vetoed the notorious pork- barrel Rivers and Harbors Act of 1882, arguing that the growing surplus of federal funds should be decreased by tax reductions rather than government expenditures." Would other examples be Richard Nixon's opening of China and Ronald Reagan's detente with the Soviet Union? I've read they rose to power in part on the strength of their credentials as anticommunists, but then they turned around and made nice with the communists. It makes sense for insiders to effect reforms. Who better knows how the system should change? I'm not saying any of Maharishi's successors will change anything. I expect the hagiographers and money-holders will win the day. Still, I'm open to being surprised. Yahoo! I think there are 2 types left in the inner circle: (1) TBs saturated with kool-aid, and in some cases with actual mental problems, who whole heartedly support the craziness now and will after MMY dies, and (2) more realistic types who are waiting for their chance to raid the coffers and take over the business side of the TMO after MMY dies. What I hear is that king tony is a figurehead without any real power, signatory rights, or line authority in the org. He'll preside over public events but won't be a mover and shaker. Yahoo! Yeah, right. When Bevans fly. :-) Actually, there IS one scenario in which I would rejoin the TM movement. If it succeeded in raising 10 trillion dollars and agreed to give *all* of it to me, I'd gladly pretend to be part of the TMO again. It's not like I'd teach TM or attend any meetings or anything, but I'd agree to pay lip service to the TMO by keeping my mouth shut and not criticizing it. Meanwhile, I'd take the money and give it away to spiritual and charitable institutions *other* than the TMO. Every penny of it. The minute the money was gone, I'd be back to my old nagging, critical self again. I figure that being able to give 10 trillion bucks to people and organizations that *really* deserve it and that might actually do something to change the world in a positive way would be worth the sacrifice on my part. Heck, it might even get me laid...from what I hear around here, if the women of the TMO thought I had 10 trillion bucks, they'd be lining up to hop into bed with me. :-) Yahoo! I would suggest that this level of bullshit-slinging should smash the lingering hopes of many here that underneath it all King Tony might be sane and that better days might be in store for the TMO after Maharishi's death. In the light of Ved, the Constitution of the Universe, Total Natural Law, the Will of God, it is my pleasure to celebrate the dawn of a new fortune for all mankind on this day of inauguration of this new year 2006. I wish to express my satisfaction for the achievements of the last years. Let this year 2006 be known as the Year of Reconstruction of the World to be Heaven on Earth, First Year of Sat Yuga, emerging from the Vedic knowledge and enlivening all fields of education, health, agriculture, architecture, science and technology, music and arts, commerce and industry, law, justice and invincible defence. Every Government of our world will enjoy real freedom in invincibility and the whole family of nations will breathe life in peace, happiness, harmony and invincibility. All these good fortunate results will bring appreciation and credit to all the brilliant leaders of our global activities. What is coming to us through our programmes of the year 2006 is the fulfilment of the aspirations of the wise throughout the ages and the fulfilment of the Spiritual Regeneration Movement started 50 years ago by our Guide, His Holiness Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, and fulfilment of his one-pointed dedication to his spiritual master, His Divinity Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, the embodiment of Vedic wisdom, the light of the Constitution of the Universe, the light of Sanatan Dharma, the light of Vedic India. Today, at this auspicious time, we are inaugurating the World Capital of Peace in the Brahmastan of India, centre of India. The distinguished Vedic Pundits of India and leading scientists of the world like Dr. John Hagelin and Dr. Volker Schanbacher, accompanied by the illustrious Rajas of the Global Country of World Peace, are inaugurating the World Capital of Peace at the Brahmastan of Ved Bhumi Bharat, the centre of India.
