Re: [fd-dev] FreeDOS installer ideas

2002-11-25 Thread Aitor Santamaria Merino
But=- FD.EXE could be made by RAR.EXE, and self extract into any 16
 bit
dos directory, or maybe even a floppy. You seen the drdos 7.03
install? It is, by far, the fastest of all of the above.
I don't think plain unpacking will upgrade the boot sector, as required
by the install disk.

Since Mozilla will run on os2 and win 3.1, it dont seem outta the
question to figure out the API calls Moz needs and answer them.
I'd bet that such an application would need WINDOW, WINCONTROL, EVENT,
and that kind of services that are not defined for DOS. You'd need to
use a bunch of such services for DOS (such as MS-Windows' KERNEL, USER,
GDI etc, and the corresponding for OS/2.)

How does this work in full screen text mode? At the end, this requires
to display more than 256 different chars at the same time! (Tell me if
 I'm completely wrong with this.)

This is full screen text mode what I was talking about. You see funny
little square boxes for each unicode character for which the font has no
equivalent.

I saw these square boxes for instance in Matthias mails because he used
  264 180 B4 ยด ACUTE ACCENT
instead of the ASCII ' and I was using cp437 on the console.

One of the things that would be neat for FD, is a codepage for english,
which replaces all the other foreign letters with diagonal and curved

Back in the BBS days, I created a font that also included electronic
circuit symbols so that we could lay out circits in ascii messages in
the newsgroup.

You should try FontSet a small tool i programmed long days ago.. :)
Sure it is Freeware...
Look at http://www.dev0.de/products_fontset.html

Well, I did, but the hard part is a consensus on how much of the std
font to change.
spoze it'd work with dosemu?
