[Waves theme] Trimming unnecessary nodes in the wallpapers
I took an opportunity to look at Waves background and noticed a tremendous amount of nodes for curves causing a huge slowdown to my x86_64 workstation. Removing some of them have reduced the original size from 208 to 186 KB. The blurred dark flame is made with less node though it could be tweaked further instead of the bunch of planes. I have added some sparks from the flames. You can view the preliminary result on http://luya.fedorapeople.org/test/ There are more trimming to do to reduce the size of the file. Nicu Buculei wrote: The release counter we had for F8 proved to be quite popular, so is natural to have this time another one, maybe with some improvements. With the release scheduled for April 29, about a month from now, I think it is a good time to start planning it. This is my first attempt at a counter: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/PromoBanners#head-ab3c9d92ea25a8b18ae3af39c9c5a77315deeaf2 It may be a bit loaded and the resulting PNG a bit large in size. The text is implemented with clones and has the "count-text" id (for automatic counter change with sed). -- nicu :: http://nicubunu.ro :: http://nicubunu.blogspot.com Cool Fedora wallpapers: http://fedora.nicubunu.ro/wallpapers/ Open Clip Art Library: http://www.openclipart.org my Fedora stuff: http://fedora.nicubunu.ro ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Wrt to the resolutions, it will be much more useful to have them as separate pngs if we can actually correct the aspect ratio of the images, just rendering the same svg at the different sizes will not give much of an improvement over just using the svg in the first place. Of course we will do that, but the first step is to put the final finishing to *one* version (probably 1920x1200), confirm that it looks good (no banding or other artifacts) and then create the other versions following the same steps. -- nicu :: http://nicubunu.ro :: http://nicubunu.blogspot.com Cool Fedora wallpapers: http://fedora.nicubunu.ro/wallpapers/ Open Clip Art Library: http://www.openclipart.org my Fedora stuff: http://fedora.nicubunu.ro ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Unfortunately, I haven't followed the discussions on this list very closely in the last weeks, so I need a quick update on where we stand wrt to F9 art. Where can I find the existing pieces, and what is still missing ? It will give more contrast to the top of the screen where folks are trying to read what syslinux is presenting to them. Great point. I usually superimpose the syslinux text on top of the image to make sure there is enough contrast and I forgot to do that this time. I got around to doing this, and I uploaded both 'previews' with the syslinux text to the wiki. It looks like the text will be readable with either design: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/F9Themes/Waves/Round3Final#head-82210a27f6d90be44edf75f2caefb9853a8ad125 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/F9Themes/Waves/Round3Final#head-82210a27f6d90be44edf75f2caefb9853a8ad125-2 ~m ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

And I like better version 1. for consistency (all the other screens have reflection in the water, not on an additional plane) and 2. for physical reasons (we have waves on a liquid surface and a plane and is not realistic at all - the water is like a wall). However, I agree the second look more contrasting and we had that bottom reflection plane in F8 too. Yeh that's a really good point. I like the contrast of #2 but it does look pretty unnatural. I think #1 is a more consistent choice with the rest of the theme. What I'm gonig to do is fade out the waves to dark in #1 as I did in #2. I think that would make #1 look a little better. Then I think maybe would should go with #1. ~m ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Yeh, the color indexing really limits how much we can reduce the pixelation. Variation 2: The horizon lets it down, as water level seems dead\flat. Other wise pixel comments as above. I agree, let's go with #1. ~m ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Maybe I'll subscribe for the future, though. The problem with starting this far out is that we're still not entirely sure if we're going to slip the release date or not, based upon the slips that we've had so far in the schedule (we've lost about 2 weeks to slips thus far). We're trying like hell to release on 4/29 as planned, but there's a (not so) small chance that won't happen. It would look fairly bad to "turn back the clock" when/if we slip. ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

I use different flames for different times of day (thus the flame would not be static) 2. I removed halo from the night version, because I like it better without it and don't see a reason to have a halo on a night sky...
