A Visual Desktop Tour of 10 Fedora Releases

2008-12-01 Thread Rahul Sundaram

Hi,

Interesting to look back at the changes

http://www.junauza.com/2008/11/visual-desktop-tour-of-10-fedora.html

"A Visual Desktop Tour of 10 Fedora Releases

Fedora is without doubt one of the most prolific Linux distributions
around. In the span of only 5 years, the Fedora Project has already
unleashed 10 major versions of Fedora.

Let's take a trip down memory lane and have a visual desktop tour of
this wonderful distro starting from its inaugural version that was
released on November 6, 2003 until its most recent version that was out
just a few days ago."

F11 - Improved templates?

2008-12-01 Thread Máirín Duffy

Hey folks,

I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in finding and
developing nice-looking, general-purpose templates we could then package
up for programs like OpenOffice.org Writer, OpenOffice.org Impress,
Scribus, Inkscape, Gimp, etc. Some of the templates shipped with these
and other apps aren't as good as they could be. We could also submit
these upstream.

What do you think?

FirstAidKit Artwork

2008-12-01 Thread María Leandro
I was working with jgranados who need an icon and a possible logo for
FirstAidKit [0]. I made some tries and finally came up something he like.

I update the DesignService and upload the artwork. [1] [2]

2008-12-01 Thread Michael Langlie
Hi,

Cool icon, but one thing to keep in mind: The Red Cross owns the trademark to
the red cross icon/logo. They have sent cease and desist orders to game
companies that use it as an icon for health re-ups. They do suggest using a
green cross or white cross on a green background instead as a generic
alternative.

i think this is a cool idea and would like to do a few. does anyone know if
there are special requirements in terms of fonts we could actually use and
expect upstream to definitely have? or is it permissable to simply use any
font within a given family and assume it will all look approx. the same
regardless of what system it is being used on?

I think we should only assume users will have access to the fonts
packaged for Fedora proper. If we use a font that isn't included in the
default live media installation, then we should require the Fedora font
package needed. Does that make sense?

Re: FirstAidKit Artwork

2008-12-01 Thread wonderer
Hy,

very nice work. as an active member of the previous mentioned
Organisation I like it also this way.
Most I like the little blue cross (I imagine how it looks if someone can
make it "glow" lighter and darker (animated...)...
I have some litte Improvements maybe.
- The wording "First Aid Kit" looks in my Eyes a bit strange in that way
as pictured. The i frim "First" and the A frim "Aid" are glued together.
But the t and d "seems" to be also, but in the green Version there are
"open". Also the Line thickness seems to be different...
- the k from "kit" streched over two lines, but was not glued to the
other Charakters... seems a bit inconsequent ;-)

Here are my ideas for improvement (just brainstorming ;-) ): try using
fedora-conform font; "First" in the first line and "Aid Kit" in the
second line and then "Block" or "centered" or maybe "First Aid" (first
line) and "Kit" (second line); don't glue Characters together...

best regards
Henrik Heigl - [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Fedora distributed on public places...

2008-12-01 Thread Valent Turkovic
Hi,
we would like to put Fedora in more and more hands. We have the will
to do it in our home town (Osijek, Croatia) and have some spare cache
to put into blank CD/DVD's and burn them. One thing we lack is some
representative box to put Fedora discs into. We would like to put
these Fedora boxes on public places like student cafeteria, pubs, pc
hardware shops, etc... It would be nice that there would be some text
on the box "It's Free - take one".

I saw request for "AmbassadorKit Box " on this page:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/DesignService
There are examples of Ubuntu. We would LOVE to have something similar
- or even better than Ubuntu ;)

Cheers,
Valent.

This is not bad at all, but I can think of a couple of possible
modifications:

- maybe the band-aid (the patch) could be larger/more visible;
- I am not sure about the perspective, it isn't top-down as most logos,
neither at the same angle as Echo, it seems to do something on its own.
