Fedora 11 press kits

2009-04-23 Thread Steven Moix
Hello,

I just put up a design request for Fedora 11 press kits from the
Marketing group. It's available on
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/DesignService#Fedora_11_press_kits

Basically a friend made the kits in Adobe InDesign CS4 and we'd like
them in a FOSS format. It's also not F11 compliant picture-wise,
consider the current models as proof of concepts...

I can provide the InDesign CS3 or CS4 source if needed...It would be
nice if someone could pick that up, I'm available for all questions.

Big thanks in advance

Steven Moix

Yeah, that is a good starting point.

I'm a Spanish Linux user who started with Fedora 7 and now I'm using
Fedora 10. I'm 17 years old but I'm involved with Linux user community.
Last year I founded a network of blogs which talk about Fedora: FBN

Too bad the sites above are unreachable for me... probably some ports
blocked at your residential ISP or something like that.

I think I will start with any request of
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/DesignService (probably, the

Link here is useful so we can give some feedback, but is important also
to have an answer from the requester. Wait for a while and if he do not
follow you proposal, you can try to contact him directly.

Now as my personal opinion about your graphics, overall I like them but
I have a few observation:

- are there sources available?
- the text is a bit thicker. the ideal size is not trivial to get, but
not that hard either: use a normal (not bold) version of MgOpen-Modata
and add a stroke;
- you used the lion from the release counter banner: that lion is in
turn based on a photo with a CC-BY license, you have to follow the
license and credit the photographer;
- I see you modified a bit the colors for the 4 bubbles and replaced
them with gradients, not sure if we want to go with this slight
variation, but yours definitely is more shiny

- Yes, are available, then I link it.
- ok
- Yes I used the same photo, then I write it credits (the requester ask
me if I can do some variations with the lions, to use this in next
releases, and I will do it.
- If Art team want it, I delete the gradients (or I make them smoother)

Thanks for the work! I have some feedback for you, I hope it's helpful:

- The general layout is great, simple and clean, and you've positioned the
elements very well in relationship to each other. These flags will definitely
make an impact!
- Where are your sources? We need the sources to be posted to the wiki so
others can participate. (If there were sources posted I could have quickly
mocked up some ideas for improvement to give to you)
- The gradients and drop shadows don't really match a lot of our artwork so I
would recommend pulling them out. It also looks like the colors of the four
icons have been modified. I would stick with the original colors in the file
you got them from - I think either Ian Weller or Clint Savage put together a
list of color standards for these so you might want to check with them to make
sure you're using the right color ocdes.
- You're using MG Open Modata, which is perfect, but you're using the bold
variant. We typically only use the regular version of this font (the bold
version is kind of goofy-looking.) Can you try with the regular version?
- The black of the lion seems a little less than ideal compared bright /
tropical almost coloring of the four foundations artwork. Can you try a variant
with a white lion? It might make the flag brighter and go together a bit better.
- These kinds of banners are quite expensive to print, you may want to consider
a design that is not F11 specific so that they can be reused (more ecological
too!)

Thanks again for your work, it is great!

I think it could use the MgOpen-Modata font for the 10 on the back

Also, for better readability and according with the Usage Guidelines, it
may be better to make the logotype on the front side white:

Wallpaper for F11

Hi everybody,

I was out for the easter's holidays in the last days and I'm returned only
yesterday.
I see a lot of mail and a lot of changes, I need some explanation, 'cause I

will we use the Lion only for the Dual Screen?
So if it is, I don't think it's a good idea, 'cause the Lion is the heores of

choice, I'm asking 'cause maybe I misunderstood.

I'm glad if someone could explain me the direction we take.

You might want to consider making the lion less present. Maybe
lower the opacity, or alter the color levels to make the lion
interfere less with desktop icons on top of it. Sorry if I'm not
using the right terminology, I leave the implementation details to the
true artists! :-)

   It's a
little boring theme now but please do not change it - I already have
splash/KDM theme and I don't really want to redo it for third time :D

An optional wall with the lion could be great (more choice)

You might want to consider making the lion less present. Maybe
lower the opacity, or alter the color levels to make the lion
interfere less with desktop icons on top of it. Sorry if I'm not
using the right terminology, I leave the implementation details to the
 true artists! :-)
XD In my opinion, a more transparent lion (and perhaps smaller)
may be more comfortable to final user

  Hi,

Someone ask me if Plymouth theme for F11 is ready. Is it? If not, is
  there any idea?

I hope the same as we have for KDE - Charlie prepared it for us but I'm not
sure about current Plymouth status. So if you'd like to try it - try KDE ;-)
I won't try KDE!! (yes, I will try it) XD Are there some screenshots to
put on the wiki??
