Re: Help out with the f11 wallpaper?

2009-03-02 Thread Camilo Mesias
Hi

a bit late perhaps but I thought of something that may make an
interesting background - since you mentioned photographic landscape. I
saw an article on tilt-shift photography, where special lenses are
used to modify perspective and depth-of-field giving an uncanny model
photography effect. This effect can also be faked in CGI rendering.

Here's the article,

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/11/16/beautiful-examples-of-tilt-shift-photography/

There are several sports stadiums (I imagined an amphitheatre) also
some Italian landscapes bearing some similarity to the nearby Greek. I
thought the large expanses of blurred areas created by the effect
would be a good non-distracting background for icons.

As to getting any usable images - I can't help but I thought it might
inspire someone more artistically inclined :)

I love the look of that, with a minor quibble about the perspective of
the front and rear rim. It has a touch of the 'Last Supper' about it
:)

Re: Proposal: Wallpaper extras submission/packaging procedure

Do the wallpapers have to be packaged up like this? It seems a bit
archaic. I have an impression of many people downloading wallpapers
they will never use.

Instead, I suggest make the wiki presentable enough for end users to
see, add a URL along the lines of "Get more wallpapers" to the desktop
Appearance Preferences. Make sure the Firefox 'Set as desktop
background' option works as expected. Then users can quickly find and
use more wallpaper images.

How about "genus fedora" as a word mark?

Re: OTish: Reccomend Graphics Tablet?

2008-06-06 Thread Camilo Mesias
I've got a low cost Medion tablet. It's a reasonable size, pressure
sensitive and has worked with some config in F8. I'll have to try it
in F9 and see how well it works.

Here's what I wrote about getting it working in F8:

Promotional items?

2008-04-03 Thread Camilo Mesias
We've had posters, flyers, t-shirts, banners... what about things like
case stickers or usb disks?

Is there a framework for working with commercial suppliers, where
artwork can be sanctioned and commercial agreements reached? I think
it would be interesting to see OSS promoted through branded goods. Or
is this seen as undesirable?

eg. http://littlethorpe.net/tptrn/images/175.jpg

cf. http://intlstore.mozilla.org/

The Firefox branded goods look pretty cool IMHO.

Re: [Round 3] Alternative wallpapers for Sulphuric Waves

2008-02-29 Thread Camilo Mesias
I don't know if it helps but I was inspired to get hold of some
sulphur and make some 'fake rocks' to burn. I've only done one little
burn so far. It has to be done outdoors because of the fumes. I plan
to do a better one soon but the weather here is terrible right now.

There are a few flame pictures on the second page of this link:

Re: [Round 3] Alternative wallpapers for Sulphuric Waves

2008-02-23 Thread Camilo Mesias
That's a really good image, you can see the brownness of the melted
stuff and the blueness of the flame.

It's really cool stuff to play with - if you drop the melted sulfur
into cold water it turns into a moldable goo, which slowly turns back
into the yellow form. If you prod the yellow stuff with a hot
soldering iron it will melt then spontaneously ignite. When it burns
the fumes mix with water in the air to make acid... I'm sure you could
mold a Fedora logo out of it, then set it alight... or etch stuff with
the fumes... or something!

Re: [Round 3] Alternative wallpapers for Sulphuric Waves

2008-02-23 Thread Camilo Mesias
I think the wallpapers are great... is the blueness of the palette a
given though? I was thinking back to my youth when some sulphur was
burned in a science experiment.

There was an amazing range of powdery yellow colours, ranging through
to a glossy dark brown for the molten sulphur. Then the flame was a
contrasting blue colour that I remember very vividly. I'm almost
tempted to find some sulphur and photograph it burning!

I can imagine a pair of images with those colours, with blue being the
dominant colour in one, and yellow in the other.

Re: F8 graphics for marketing

2007-09-13 Thread Camilo Mesias
Regarding the use of "infinite" and "possibilities", it's worth noting
that Fujitsu uses "The possibilities are infinite" as part of its
global branding (that slogan is a trademark). In common with Fedora,
the Fujitsu logo includes a motif which references infinity.

I like the reference to freedom. The fedora infinity motif could also
be interpreted as cyclical, sustainable or continuous. For me freedom
is a very important feature distinguishing Fedora from other Linux
distros. Another distinguishing feature is being technically as near
to the leading edge as is possible. So some other suggestions:

return to freedom
continuous freedom
freedom sustained
freedom continuum

etc.
