Hello

What pieces of KDE theming do you think Fedora misses? We've got
wallpapers, login screen, and splash screen. Can you think of anything
specific that's missing? (screenshots are *always* helpful for
illustration.)

Well some quick thoughts:
#01 kde metabar
I have requested the theming of konqueror's metabar in the past in
this mailing list:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2006-September/msg00086.html
but didn't get any reply, neither from the kde maintainer.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=207770

Default fedora kde's metabar:
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=331738371&size=o
Screenshot:
http://clunixchit.blogspot.com/2006/04/fc5-kde35-personalize-your-konquerors.html#links
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=36348&vote=good&tan=88895690

#02: FE icon theme guidelines
This should be requested to FESCo:
Any kde icon set should have the fedora-logo as the kmenu icon.
Example: I changed the default kmenu icon of crystal-clear to the
fedora-logo, branding fedora properly always make fedora looks better
:)
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=219962

Perhaps you guys from Fedora Artwork might provide some generic fedora
*.png to FE packagers if they want to theme their packages.

#03: kontact theming
Fedora will have its own kde version soon, having too many email
clients on the iso isn't a bright idea. So kontact theming might be
considered with respect to fedora as well :)

#04: End KDE session
The Fedora's KDE End session 's image
/usr/share/apps/ksmserver/pics/shutdownkonq.png is the default KDE
one.
It would be nice to have a special fedora kde "end session" picture
showing, for example konqi (the dragon) having fun with Fedora.

Showing konqi flying on Fedora balloons on F7 for example.

Since Fedora will have soon a special kde version, Fedora is likely to
have such things.

#05: I haven't yet seen any progress of echo theme in kde's
perspective, since when I last tried Echo theme was not compatible
with kde :(

#06: khelpcenter
khelpcenter is something too worth to consider.

Well, I don't know whether you guys can give some 30-45 mins
mini-conference on irc (perhaps one each two months) which could
attract some artists from kde-look.org to work on and give love to
Fedora's kde.

On my side, whenever, I see some nice artwork with respect to Fedora,
I don't hesitate to invite the artist to join this mailing list (even
if it's gnome related).

Some urls:

I haven't used KDE in... wow... it must be over 4 years

A reason to try now :)

one echo icon on kde toolbar

2007-02-04 Thread Chitlesh GOORAH

Hello there,
I was hacking down, wanted to put at least one icon on the kde toolbar.
I did it :) at least one.
well what i did is:
1- i took another kde icon theme
2- with gimp, i converted the go-up.png of 24x24/actions to 22x22
3- rename it to up.png (symbolic links aren't working :( )
4- replace up.png of 22x22/actions of the kde icon theme by [3]
5- created a tarball of my modified kde icon theme
6- from kcontrol, I imported the icon-theme

and voilà
http://flickr.com/photos/clunixchit/379244277/

I guess for kde, there must be 22x22 icons and symbolic links should
be treated properly.

Hello,
Surely I'll have a look in the upcoming days. However we still have to
consider that in kde we have more possibilities to change the size of
kicker in whatever size we want. Hence we have to ship different icon
sizes.

I have also noticed that using the ctrl_key+mouse_wheel to change the
size of the contents on any folders (accessibility), the icons change
if the related icons are of particular size aren't included.

there are other apps who need more sizes too
see https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2007-January/msg00151.html

Everytime when representing fedora on any event, there is always one
disabled person who ask me about the options that fedora ship in terms
of accessibility. I wish I could now say that fedora can be an OS for
them too, instead of being speechless in front of them.

Hello,

reading the comments reminded me of the "crystal" kde window decorator
configured with vista theme.

An old screenshot:

And yes, when the mouse is on the close button, the latter hovers to
red and on the other buttons, it hovers to blue.

check it out:
yum install crystal
and make sure you choose "vista theme".

A new version of crystal is released recently, I'll be updating the
FC-6, F-7 f8-devel in the upcoming days.

PS:Actually this is my favourite theme for quite some time.

No ! Actually this is the official window decorator of the kubuntu distribution.
If you have installed crystal, you will see the themes of kubuntu
(edgy,fiesty),vista,aqua,svg.. are included. The crystal development
team work closely with kubuntu. I don't think they will object fedora
choosing it as default as well, (if it would be)

To me, your idea will be easy to implement. And considering the fact,
that F8 development cycle is about 5 months. Hence it will be quick to
create such theme for F8.

Crystal provides many themes, some screenshots on fedora:
- kubuntu-dapper: http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=537757887&size=o
see how the close button hovers to red
- kubuntu-feisty: http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=537757889&size=o
see how the minimize button hovers to blue
- vista: http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=537757891&size=o

Take a look at
http://tux.u-strasbg.fr/~chit/crystal-1.0.4/pics/
These themes shipped by the crystal source code.

You can design a new fedora theme of crystal. All you have to work on
is the artwork,
which is actually the goal of this mailing list :) Thus how the icons
will hover will not be your problem.

If you are planning to work on it, I'll be glad to give a hand for
testing and integrating it for f8. Surely, your (would-be) work can be
pushed to the official crystal source code(upstream).

Here is the 1.0.4 rpm, I'll be pushing soon:
RPM : http://tux.u-strasbg.fr/~chit/RPMS/crystal-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm
SRPM: http://tux.u-strasbg.fr/~chit/RPMS/crystal-1.0.4-1.src.rpm

meanwhile you can do some testing and report any weird issues if any.

I don't know yet, if KDE4 will make it before F8. But if it does, you
might consider the time and effort you are putting for 3.5.x. The
"oxygen" icon set of KDE4 is simply great.

Talking about kde,
what is really the path we are going to take
- crystal like (my favourite) ?
- gnome like (german kde core developpers will accuse us again for
destroying their work) ?

However, like i said before, we should bear in mind KDE4 is different
from KDE3.5. Meaning your work on kde3.5 might not be ported to kde4.
My request would be to work on several kde images such as:
- login / logout screens
- kcontrol main page
- kde metabar. (I have requested (and it was accepted for F7) a fedora
5 metabar )
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Fedora+Bubbles+Metabar+theme+V2?content=53028
Perhaps it could be updated accordingly.
more https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-art-list/2006-December/msg00206.html

Surely any design should be fedora related but fedora release
independent. For KDE4, many apps will have their artwork revamp, so
staying tune with upstream is imminent.

You can create a new fedora theme like for:
- log out: http://kde-artists.org/logout
- kcontrol: /usr/share/apps/kcontrol/about/top-right-kcontrol.png

Wow, that's a great start.

To me, mixing the sky and the sea represents stability. Having a 5

moonshine and more polishing.

Yep, this is indeed a proper way to reflect F8.

I like this one, could you change the clothes of the djs so that they
could reflect fedora contributors ?

As well, if cds could be of different colour, djs.png will demonstrate
the different spins of fedora :)

This website hosts a lot of photos from different parties around the

Well I mean the colour of the clothes. In the case of Fedora, blue
would be perfect, along with a small Fedora logo on it :).

My motivations -> I would like to have a fedora kplash instead of a kde's on FEL

Following the discussion with Rex and Kevin on #fedora-kde which
ultimately tuned to #fedora-art, there are the constraints:
 * have a proper color gradient from the splash_top to splash
active/inactive bar
 * the actual inactive/active bar is with echo icons but fedora's kde
uses crystal icons by default
 * not enough time before F8

Based on the above, I've got my hands dirty and created :
 http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/art/splash_top.png

the complete preview:
 http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/art/preview.png

a screencast (poor quality)
http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/art/screen1.ogg

What I did ?
Took the rhgb image and scaled it to 400*248
then from the color of the active/inactive bar I've created a gradient.

Kevin's comments:
[22:20:23] I think it's a good idea, but the color
transition somehow looks artificial.
[22:20:50] Maybe a combination of recoloring both the
top and the bottom by a small amount (small enough not to look
recolored, large enough to get closer to each other) and a smoother
gradient can make it look better?
[22:21:14] But I have almost zero artwork experience
and not a good sense of aesthetics. ;-)
[22:21:33] So an actual artwork designer can probably
make it look better.

Michael's comments
[22:14:52] for some reason, i want to see the inifity lines a
little bit more
[22:15:05] i kind of think they blend in a little bit too much
[22:15:57] other than that, i don't see much that i'd change

I'm not an artist and I agree with them.
It's a bit artificial and I hope an artist could do some final touch.
http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/art/kde-splash.png.svg

Can any artist in here, add the blue gradient like on the preview.png
and at the same time bring the lines of the infinity theme forward
please (as soon as possible) ?

Jakub, I've no intention to take over your proposal. If you like my
proposal, please do take the lead :)

Hai
great work.

However, I would recommend using colours similar to F8's theme, as :
on some laptops (or while using the battery), the theme will be too
dark.
F9's theme is too dark with certain laptop screens. Let's optimize that for F10.

download it with fedora's yum

2009-01-17 Thread Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello dear artists,

I have seen many upstream projects providing links to old fedora rpms
in their download section of the website.

I believe that if these upstream projects get a small picture from us
to reflect that
- software "mySOFTWARE" can be downloaded from fedora repositories
- a link on the picture to a fedora wiki page explaining how to
install with yum or kpackagekit

* it would be easier for users
* your artistic skills will show how quality class is fedora

Can you guys please, create a small png (theme independent) with
something like "download with fedora" ?

Kind regards,
Chitlesh
