Good afternoon, a quick intro and then the real reason I'm here.
I'm Karlie Robinson, a Fedora Ambassador and most recently a member of the
 Fedora OLPC SIG.
This is my first time requesting artwork, so please don't hesitate to email
for clarification. After all, I think I need images to get the idea across
so words are bound to fail me.
I've added a request on the Document Illustration Services page -
 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/DocIllustrationService#Request_list

I need an image or series of images illustrating how to insert a SD card
 into the OLPC XO.

This will be used for instructions on how to load F10 onto the XO.

I will also be using these to print instruction cards at the request of
OLPC for SD cards that will be sold along side the XO at the Give One Get
One at Amazon.com. So black and white/gray scale version would be
 preferred. Perhaps a line drawing?
We need to illustrate how to access the SD slot by turning the monitor
counter clockwise and then inserting the card into the slot. These photos
may help visualize why words aren't the best way to point out where the SD
 slot is. http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/externalports.shtml and
 http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/start/externalports.shtml

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration,

 Karlie Robinson

Cool, some of them might even work very good for wallpaper (from
usability POV) and all of them look great!

For those not subscribed on the infra list here's some info. It might be
best to implement a gallery2 [1] software, which seems to mostly satisfy
our needs. It only seem to lack a way to handle sources easily (e.g. for
images generated via some script or from SVGs) and currently has no
integration with FAS, but it seems it could be done.

Looks like we could maybe eventually host the gallery on
 art.fedoraproject.org.

Here's [2] the list of requirements I though of when I explained our
needs/plans on the infrastructure list, and here's [3] the reply on
 that.

Do you think I listed all the requirements? Does the gallery2 on
art.fp.o seems like a good solution to you? Comments welcome.

 Thanks,

I would see it like a collection of clipart images: various diagram

background texture so a new diagram could be made only with drag and drop.

the main issue i have with diagrams in inkscape is the poor connectors

the 'user' of the template will have to use the align distribute dialog a

 Hello everyone,

 Hi,

I was playing around today and I made this banner for the Fonts SIG
request up in DesignService. The idea behind it is that before computers
there were typewriters and presses. They used little metal letters which
when covered with ink/carbon they left an impression on the paper. So I
tired to recreate that with Inkscape. Of course they aren't a full
representation of the metal-type (something like Linotype), but close
enough (it's hard to recreate metal with Inkscape).

While the ultimate decision of taking or rejecting the banner stands with
the people on the Fonts SIG, I can say it looks like a good start for me
(but I think you have some work to do).

I used MgOpen Modata for all fonts. The first letters are latin but used
in many, many alphabets. The other ones are from the Malayalam alphabet
(Why? Because I think they are one of the most stylish letters ever
written!). I do not know their meaning or anything, but they look very
 good.

Hope you like it and please do not be shy to beat me up if you don't
like it (make sure you say why you don't like it).

Look at the page where the banner will be used:
 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Fonts_SIG - your background color
does not match (and does not match the rest of the banners on our wiki).

Also look at other banners, like this one:
 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork

Add a shadow at the text bottom, to match our general style.

The reflection is wrong, it is a transparent gradient, bu the orientation
should be inverse, you want more opacity near the start (top) and decreasing
(to complete transparency at the extremity).

If you haven't already seen it, the following link outlines the steps

(we have recently migrated to the mediawiki platform, so the layout of the
wiki may still be a bit rough around the edges...)

I have some digital art production experience, mainly with adobe
products in a windows environment. I am anxious to learn more about
Linux and open source software and I feel I have
  much to offer!

Not sure if you know about the open source equivalents in the graphic design
world, but in short:

Vector Graphics - Inkscape
Raster / Photo Manipulation - GIMP
Page Layout / Desktop Publishing - Scribus

I personally am a huge inkscape fan, and you will find it is also a popular
tool for a lot of the members of the fedora artTeam...

 For sure:

 x86 Live CD

 Someone might want to produce:

 x86_64 Live CD
 x86_64 DVD

Doubtful they'll be used, but probably trivial to create art for:

 ppc Live CD
 ppc DVD

If you are using inkscape to design this logo, try to use the Icon Preview
(view icon preview)
This will give you a display of what the PNG will look at in smaller sizes,
so you can tweak the drawing to work better as an icon.

that's awesome... what font(s) are used for the text on these banners?
i might make up a default template with clones and such, allowing for easy
creation of these banners...

On the subject of the banner itself, i like the second one better (with the
squares instead of the written date...)
IMO, it still portrays the Event / Date metaphor effectively. The only other
ideas i had for an image for this banner were involving party items like a
foamy beer or a martini, which could also protray an Event. However i
think the date / calendar image is a much better way to go
