Might have been fixed in 1.26.1 pango update. Can't tell from the trace.

If you want to say "handwriting" the correct generic is "cursive" in fontconfig
and in css. "fantasy" is just where we dump fonts we can not categorize
otherwise.

If you knew how I wished their packagers fixed those to comply with our naming
guidelines (grumbles)… This is all stuff that antedates the formal font package
naming guideline that was adopted last year. New packages can't use old
problems as excuse to introduce new ones.

Will check those ASAP

No problem. I'm not a font packager and I missed the suggestion to CC the
fedora-fonts-bugs-list.

I choose "fantasy" because I browsed Fedora CVS for other handwriting fonts and
this is what I found:

brettfont-fonts: There is no fontconfig.conf
http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/brettfont-fonts/devel/

sj-fonts: "fantasy"
http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/sj-fonts/devel/

dustin-domestic-manners-fonts: "fantasy"
http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/dustin-domestic-manners-fonts/devel/

I renamed the package, but I found really a lot of fonts in Fedora CVS that do
not comply with this guideline. For example the aforementioned brettfont,
icelandic-fonts, asana-math-fonts, roadstencil-fonts, sportrop, etc that are
also distributed via the Open Font Library project.

I'll mail upstream about this, but I'm not confident at all that your points
will be addressed. Upstream seems to have made only this font in its lifetime
and it did it a long ago.

[Bug 545824] New: Boldface not working with some sizes

2009-12-09 Thread bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug.

Summary: Boldface not working with some sizes

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=545824

Summary: Boldface not working with some sizes
   Product: Fedora
   Version: 12
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: medium
  Priority: low
 Component: cjkuni-fonts
AssignedTo: ccha...@redhat.com
ReportedBy: frigoris...@gmail.com
 QAContact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: ccha...@redhat.com, phu...@redhat.com,
fedora-fonts-bugs-list@redhat.com
Classification: Fedora

Created an attachment (id=377170)
 --> (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=377170)
Screenshot (11pt). UMing was problematic while UKai OK.

Description of problem:

Text in boldface cannot be correctly shown in UKai and UMing font families when
certain font sizes are used. Instead, they are shown as normal characters with
slightly larger spacing between them.

For example, in 11pts, UMing boldface is not working, while UKai works. Both
font families work fine in 12pts, yet neither works in 14pts.

In the screenshots to be uploaded later, the same text excerpt was copied in
OpenOffice.org Writer in order to show the idiosyncrasy. The filenames (w/o the
".png" part) indicates the size used. Each screenshot shows two paragraphs of
identical texts, both with the first sentence set to boldface in Oo.o Writer.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

cjkuni-fonts-0.2.20080216.1-29.fc12

How reproducible:

Always

Actual results:

"Boldface" displayed just like non-boldface, with slightly larger character
spacing.

Expected results:

"Boldface" text should have been displayed in boldface, duh.

Additional info:

Non-CJK characters are affected too.

Another font, the WenQuanYi Zen Hei (package name: wqy-zenhei-fonts), doesn't
display this erroneous behavior.

Patch for pango compcharset

Revised the patch.

Now this pango patch also could support that 'compmode' is strong.

   VL Gothic

   ja
   strong
   all

Then pango latin, common, hira/kana, greek, etc could use ja fonts on ja
locale.
