I would like to lengthen the timeout for the display/screensaver, but I have not figured out how to do this. I am running xfce. so Gnome and KDE options are not available AFAIK. Suggestions? Globbing with scp

Unfortunately I was (and still am to a large degree) a complete newbie when it comes to Linux. (I am much more familiar with OpenBSD.) Since I did not realize I needed to create 2 partitions (system, boot) before installing, I created only 1 partition and now, I can not use the preupgrade option. I'm running 32-bit F9 with only 1 partition.. The lack of a separate boot partition prevented me from completing the preupgrade to F10. How to speed up refresh for remote X11 displays via ssh
I now have X11 via ssh working on F9, but refresh of the remote X11 window is extremely slow, even over a 1GB switch. Is there a way to speed up the refresh? Yes. I came from OpenBSD and am a complete Linux newbie, so I had an incorrect understanding of the Linux firewall setup and didn't realize it. I am running 32-bit fedora 9 and 64-bit Suse 11.0 and 64-bit OpenBSD 4.4 on a local net. Ssh does not work between F9 and Suse 11.0. Ssh from f9 to Suse times out. There also is a persistant problem with font corruption in Firefox which I have discovered can be corrected by exiting firefox, logging out, logging in again and then restarting firefox. Corruption of f9 man pages
I notice spreading corruption of f9 fonts. The most recent example is when I do 'man sshd_conf'. Ever more characters are being replaced by strangeness as an example below shows. AddressFamily Specifies which address family should be used by sshd(8). Valid arguments are âyâetâet6âyâlowAgentForwarding Specifies whether ssh-agent(1) forwarding is permitted. The default is âsâlowGroups The above is copied directly from the xterm display of 'man sshd_conf' output. It was originally my intention to install 64-bit, but the Fedora 9 Bible came with a DVD containing only the 32-bit version. -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@redhat.com To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicate/MailingListGuidelines
A Possible Reason for Problems with Flash Player
After attempting to install the Firefox Flash plugin, I kept getting SELinux alerts every time I started Firefox. After deleting all the files in the directory /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper, I continued to get SELinux alerts. The flash plugin attempts to make the stack executable, which SELinux does not permit on my system. The alerts from one invocation of Firefox follow: 2/home/daf}firefox Error: /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/plugin-config not found /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/plugin-config not found FoxyProxy settingsDir = /home/daf/.mozilla/firefox/jde131vm.default ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) ** Message: GetValue variable 1 (1) ** Message: GetValue variable 2 (2) LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/npwrapp er.so [/usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/npwrapper.so: cannot open shared object file: Pe rmission denied] GCJ PLUGIN: thread 0x9fc7cf0: NP_GetMIMEDescription GCJ PLUGIN: thread 0x9fc7cf0: NP_GetMIMEDescription return GCJ PLUGIN: thread 0x9fc7cf0: NP_GetValue GCJ PLUGIN: thread 0x9fc7cf0: NP_GetValue: returning plugin name. The offending file is a plugin called npviewer. Java was updated yesterday. I think this was activated as a result of my attempts to get Flash working with Firefox. -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@redhat.com To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicate/MailingListGuidelines

Firefox 3.05 attempting to execute code on stack
SELinux is reporting attempts by Firefox 3.05-1 to execute code on the stack on 32-bit f9. Time for a Firefox upgrade? -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@redhat.com To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicate/MailingListGuidelines
Upgrade to OpenOffice 3 on F9
