Hi,

Depends on which PCI interface is meant.

PCI:
D-Link DFE-580TX uses sundance driver

PCI-X 133MHZ:
Intel PWLA8494GT Pro/1000GT uses e1000 driver

PCIe:
HP NC364T, 4x 1000Base-T, PCIe x4 (435508-B21)
Intel Gigabit ET Server Adapter, 4x 1000Base-T, PCIe x4, low profile
(E1G44ET)
Intel PRO/1000 PT Server Adapter, 4x 1000Base-SX, PCIe x4 (EXPI9404PF)
Intel PRO/1000 PT Server Adapter, 4x 1000Base-T, PCIe x4 (EXPI9404PT)
Intel PRO/1000 PT Server Adapter, 4x 1000Base-T, PCIe x4, low profile
(EXPI9404PTL)

all use the e1000e driver

I googled them and looked at what chipset they use. I haven't actually
tested them.

Hope this helps.

OpenSER / Kamailio

2009-10-25 Thread Felix Kaechele
Hi there,
I'm just starting to play with my SIP Phones using OpenSER.
I was wondering why there have been no updates to the OpenSER package
since it was renamed to Kamailio in version 1.4.0?
I did however notice that version 1.4.0 in fact is of an earlier date
than version 1.3.4 (which still is named OpenSER and is in Fedora).

So is there an actual difference between OpenSER and Kamailio - other
than the name - that prevents us from replacing the OpenSER package with
a Kamailio package. Or is it just that nobody has submitted a review
request for Kamailio yet?

Hello All!

Imagine an application, which relies on a specific kernel module. This
module is not a part of stock Fedora kernel (at least, yet), and we
don't allow stand-alone kernel modules.

Whether or not this package can be allowed?

If not, what does dahdi-tools do in Fedora then?

IMO: no.

Packages in Fedora should just work and therefore must not rely on
anything which is not in Fedora.

From the opposite POV:
Why should we make peoples' lives harder getting the tools they need?
Example: Somebody without the DAHDI Kernel Modules would probably not
try to use the DAHDI Tools since he probably won't even know what it's
good for. However It makes things easier for the people who do know what
DAHDI is to have tools to use their DAHDI hardware (they compiled/got
the Kernel modules for) just a yum install away.

I would like blueZync to work on Fedora too
(currently developing on Debian and Ubuntu).

Me too. I did start a packaging effort some time ago and caused a little
disaster by updating libsyncml to a newer version to build blueZync. Our
problem was that nothing else could be built against the new version of
libsyncml.

As far as I can see, not such -devel packages are available
for Fedora 11 or 12.

That is correct.

Can anybody guide me as to how to kindly request such
packages for Fedora?

The best would be to file a bug against both thunderbird and sunbird and
kindly state what you would need for building blueZync.
If you as the developer did that, that would be great. As soon as the
development files are available I'd be glad working with you on getting
blueZync into Fedora.

I run my server with Fedora and didn't have any incidents of crashing

Is Fedora really gaining that much ground with every bi-yearly release to

Why does a fast development pace need to be justified. That's just so
paradoxical...

After all Red Hat is not a desktop but a server, right? And Chrome could
kill current races to find a desktop to compete with Windows. So why not
concentrate on what Red Hat/Fedora does best? Let Ubuntu grind out Gnome
and KDE enhancements. How often does Solaris release desktop distros?

Are you serious?
Fedora is a community driven project. The community decides the
direction it wants the distribution to go. And it is also true that
Fedora is upstream to Red Hat Enterprise Linux. However even RHEL is not
server-only. RHEL also makes a great desktop client in an environment
where long term support is needed.
Also: I _want_ to use Fedora as a desktop. And I also _want_ to use it
as a server. At the Moment I see no problem in that. Why can't there be
both in your opinion?
Letting Ubuntu grind out the desktop stuff doesn't make sense. Do you
want to kick out all the guys doing great work on desktop stuff and send
them to Ubuntu?

And to answer your last question. Solaris releases their desktop
distro every six months, just like Fedora. They then call it
OpenSolaris, also a community-driven project.
