RE: RAM question for everyone!

2009-01-23 Thread Kaplan, Andrew H.
Hi there --

One question that needs to be answered is whether or not the operating system in
question is 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.

The 32-bit architecture has a 'glass
ceiling' limit of up to 4 gigabytes of RAM that it can access. The same is not
true for 64-bit architecture. Once you have the answer to the above, you can
make
a better decision on the RAM package.

Subject: RAM question for everyone!

I was recently asked a question about how much RAM should there be
within a server given that the APP uses 8GB of Memory, should I buy
10Gig of memory and have a small harddrive and no swap space? Would
this configuration allow everything in my OS to run from RAM and not
from swap? If this is the case then there's no need to ever create
swap, is there?!?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

RE: Telnet Issue with Fedora 9

2008-08-27 Thread Kaplan, Andrew H.
The most likely scenario is that while the telnet client is installed, the
telnet server is not installed on the workstation. You can run the yum utility,
and do a search for the telnet-server package.

Subject: Telnet Issue with Fedora 9

I have Fedora 9 installed on my Hp Laptop and I have Windows Vista on my other
Hp Laptop. I also have Red Hat installed in a Desktop system. The issue that I
have is that I can telnet OUT anywhere from my Hp Laptop that has Fedora on it
but I cannot telnet in any time. I have tried everything that I could even
taking the Security off the Hp Fedora. I am at a loss. I have tried to send may
messages to see if anyone can hep but to no avail.
