You downloaded the wrong files. You need the DVD .iso file to

will get a working install CD set if you don't mind swapping

The bit width of the CPU has no effect on the DRAM chip layout.
You simply connect enough chips in parallel to achieve the
desired data bus width. A typical 64-bit DIMM stick has eight
8-bit wide chips.

windows-xp already exists using 26GB of 80GB on the HD.

Does that mean that you (a) have a 26GB WIndows partition and the
rest of the disk as unpartitioned space, or that (b) you have a
80GB Windows partition occupying the whole drive and 26GB of
files on it?

 1. Could not allocate requested partitions. Not enough space
left to create partition for /boot.

Looks like option (b) is the right answer to the question above.
Unused space inside your Windows partition (or drive to use
the wrong and confusing Windows terminology) isn't free space
usable for Linux installation. You need unpartitioned free
space, created by shrinking the Windows partition.

 I am a bit confused. I have a small audio/video collection
and it is placed in an NTFS file-system on a secondary disk,
and I noticed that it is fusefs mounted into the /media
directory. The problem for me, is that I am unable to
set ownership and attributes (selinux) on this mounted
 file-system.

Ownership and access control support on ntfs-3g requires setting
up a file with Windows/Linux user and group ID mappings:
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/b.andre/security.html

SElinux labels aren't supported in ntfs-3g.

Re: Dependency hell again. Or is it still?

2008-07-19 Thread Markku Kolkka
Gene Heskett kirjoitti viestissään (lähetysaika perjantai, 18.
heinäkuuta 2008):
 checking for OpenGL... yes
configure: error: Gmerlin needs OpenGL and GLX
 Compilation in gmerlin failed

I've poked at yumex's search bar now for about half an hour
trying to get it to show me some GLX that isn't just the glitz
 bindings.

So what do I install to fix these dependencies?

mesa-libGL-devel
If that doesn't help, check the configure.log file to see which
header or library is actually missing.

Re: SATA hotswap / hotplug

2008-07-17 Thread Markku Kolkka
Christopher Mocock kirjoitti viestissään (lähetysaika torstai,
17. heinäkuuta 2008):
Well spotted, I saw this bit of the same page...

 http://linux-ata.org/driver-status.html#marvell

 ... and it says:

 Driver name: sata_mv

Summary: Similar to ServerWorks frodo: per-device queues,
 full SATA control including hotplug.

So I'm a little bit puzzled. Unless it means hotplugging the
 card itself?!?

It means that the controller _hardware_ has the necessary
features for hotplug support. The driver/feature matrix shows
that the current version of sata_mv driver doesn't support
hotplugging (but it may be added in future).

How can I get 'gpaint' or 'kolourpaint' in Fedora 8?

Kolourpaint is part of the kdegraphics package. yum install
kdegraphics or use one of the GUI front-ends.

don't know anything about BOINC but do you have/need httpd
 running (sounds like it)

You don't need httpd to run the BOINC client. It doesn't need any
incoming firewall ports open either. I think this thread got
sidetracked somewhere, I don't believe the OP wants to run a
BOINC project server.

Re: Checking CPU temperature

2008-06-11 Thread Markku Kolkka
Paul Smith kirjoitti viestissään (lähetysaika keskiviikko, 11.
kesäkuuta 2008):

 $ sensors
 it8712-isa-0290
 Adapter: ISA adapter
 M/B Temp:-55.0°C (low = +127.0°C, high = +127.0°C)
 sensor = transistor CPU Temp: -2.0°C  (low  = +127.0°C,
 high = +127.0°C)  sensor = transistor Temp3:   +49.0°C
 (low = +127.0°C, high = +90.0°C) sensor = thermal diode

it8712 is a generic sensor chip with three identical temperature
measurement channels. You need to edit /etc/sensors.conf to
specify how the motherboard manufacturer has actually wired the
channels, the default labels are just random guesses.
