3ware 3dm2 and Fedora 10

2009-01-03 Thread Mike Zingale
Has anyone succeeded in installing one of the latest versions of the
3ware 3dm2 software on Fedora 10 (x86_64)? I tried both 9.5.1.1 and
9.4.1.3, but in both cases, the setupLinux_x64.bin program aborted
claiming that it was unable to delete some temporary files. Looking
through the script some, it seems that it may be related to Java, but
I couldn't find a way around this.

Ultimately, I wound up installing an older version, 9.3.0.4, which
seems to work fine on Fedora 10 (i.e., I can access 3dm2 through
firefox and monitor my RAID). But I'd like to know what the issue
with the newer versions is.

fedora 9 / windows XP grub question

2008-06-04 Thread Mike Zingale
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 on my laptop. I had the
install use any Linux partitions. Usually I would tell it to put grub
on the boot partition install of on the MBR, but I was not presented
that option with Fedora 9.

However, it seems to have just magically worked -- my Windows XP boots
if I select "other" from the grub menu. I used to think that grub
overwrote the Windows MBR and that this could not work. Is this a
recent change with grub or somehow just an anomaly?

Thanks,

Mike

lenovo X60 and external display with fedora 9

2008-06-04 Thread Mike Zingale
I just updated my laptop from fedora core 6 to fedora 9 (I did a clean
install). The display now uses the Intel driver. Under FC6, all I
needed to do was plug a display into the external VGA port, and
instantly my desktop would be cloned on the external display.

With the new intel driver, this no longer seems to work.

I can seem to get it to display by plugging in a monitor and doing
"xrandr --auto", but this seems to be a step backwards. Is there
anyway to get the external VGA port to automatically clone the display
when something is plugged in?

Thanks for any help,

Mike
