Thanks, Mikkel. I have read Antonio's instructions on another topic:

$ alsamixer -c 0
set the sound levels to what you like and test it out. Once you are
satisfied with sound levels, run
$ su -
passwd:
# /sbin/alsactl store

I tried to run alsamixer, but there wasn't such command. I found out
that the package alsa-utils was not present (I might have deleted it
along with its 32-bit version). I installed it back, and then I didn't
have to do anything else. :)

Trying to install F11 x86_64 on ext3

2009-07-31 Thread Misha Shnurapet
I am trying out the ways to install Fedora 11 on ext3. I know the LiveCD
will not let me do it because it is simply a compressed image of a
pre-installed system and then must be copied upon an ext4 partition.

I ran through the forums and found that installing from a DVD will let
me have the new Fedora on ext3. I downloaded the image, burned it,
double-checked it with

$ sha256sum /dev/dvd

I boot with the DVD and start the installation; at the moment when it
starts detecting the hard drives (I have 2 SATA pcs.), Anaconda shows an
error. I can't save what it reports because I can not switch focus to
the window (does not response being covered by the small one saying
"searching for the hard drives"). :) Tried clicking and Alt+Tabbing,
there is no way. :)

I have searched the project wiki for errata. There doesn't seem anything
similar listed.

I would like to get this working. Please, give me a hint where to look
for further instructions. (Yes, I could try the upgrade feature, but I
would like a fresh install.) :)

Thanks

F10: DVD drive closes by itself

2009-07-31 Thread Misha Shnurapet
On Fedora 10 my DVD drives close trays almost immediately after they
have been opened with software means. I say drives because I have tried
on two different DVD-RW devices.

The one I have now installed on my machine does not close when I press
the hardware button. But when Brasero opens the tray (or when I click
the Eject button in Nautilus or select the option out of the context
menu), it shuts back hardly have I managed to take out the media! :D

Was there a feature introduced last two months? :) I would like to
recover. :)

It is enough to put the file to

I prefer that way because I don't need root priveleges to do that.

There is a tool named audio-convert-mod which can batch-convert
directories.

File → Show Format Conversion Capabilities

will tell you what packages to install in order to make a conversion,
which is very useful.

Probably it's just because you have enabled the Rawhide repositories and
now you are installing packages from Rawhide for the next release (the
work on F12 has started upon the release of F11).

All you gotta do is to copy the fonts to ~/.fonts of

I managed to install the Anonymous Pro font you gave the link to on my
