The remix is the prototype for a future spin. Sure, I did the testing I
could and I have confirmation that it works from a few users.

I had already did a remix based on LXDE a release before and I had the
kickstart and a working image a while earlier. The survey was done on
this list just to gauge interest in it before releasing it. I did try
and convey this to you and Kevin. Maybe we had a communication
breakdown. In that case, accept my apologies.

Spins have to go through a checklist. Remixes aren't required to do it
but I did test the basic things I could. All of the packages are already
in the Fedora repository and haven't been modified. So whatever bugs are
in it are already in it. The remix doesn't introduce anything new. Let's
just move forward without more bickering. If you want to work on a
updated image, let's just do that.

Sorry, this is not true. Your last comment on the topic was: "That is
what enables me to even suggest that we do a remix at this stage."

You suggested something, you didn't tell me about a prototype or about
that you were to release something. Where is that prototype? Did someone
test it? Was there any testing done at all?

When someone on this list asked for the LXDE Spin last week your reply
was: "Haven't decided yet. Might work on it if I find time." This was on
June 10th, on June 15th the spin way already announced. I doubt one can
do the spinning plus a reasonable amount of QA within 4 times.
Have you been running the "basic spin testing" or checked the "Things to
test on LXDE"? Obviously not, although it was all in the wiki and you
knew.

One of the reasons why the spin did not make it in time were problems
with debranding it properly. You insisted that this problem was
important and therefor I had to delay the spin. Strange to see you
changed you mind now: The issues remain, but you released the Spin
anyway.

Sorry, but you didn't do the Xfce kickstart ether. I originally did it,
you modified it a little, inserted "(c) Rahul Sundaram, GPlv2 or later"
in the header and released it without telling Kevin or me. Remember?

But not too fast please. You are not the one to get the bug reports,so
please next time please ask me for the status of LXDE and tell me what
you have in mind so we can coordinate our efforts.

We did discuss about this before Christoph. I told you I was interested
in getting a prototype out early and did a survey in this before that
you were aware of and we discussed about offlist.

Including updates in the release while bringing in a few more fixes
breaks other things. We can always do a updated remix with the fixes
rolled in at a later point. The whole idea is to get you enough feedback
to justify a spin of good quality for Fedora 12. If it was not
"unfinished", it would have been a spin and not a remix. Release early,
release often.

The fact it is your work with some modifications is fully acknowledged at

http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/remixes/LXDE/lxde-fedora-remix-11.ks

Of course, the original contains traces of the Xfce kickstart file I
did. We all build from each other and get things rolling faster by doing
this.

I have made a new version of Fedora Osijek Remix[1] based on Fedora
11, and this time iso image that is produces boots! ;)
I have split it up in two .ks files[2][3] so that there can be made
two kinds of iso images, one with all software (including proprietary
flash, skype and similar software) and other iso that is only open
source software.

You will see that we have included multimedia files that are forbidden
in US due to patent issues, but there are intended to be distributed
in parts of the world that aren't troubled by patent issues... and
also this can be made even more granular with 3rd .ks file that would
be only files from Fedora repos.

I would like to ask Rahul and everybody who is knowledgeable to please
review these files and report ANY feedback, please, the more feedback
the better.

I would also like to know and find out how to make Respin with some
folder of video (ogg) files on the desktop that is available on livecd
but also after you install it to hard drive on each users desktop?

Cheers and thank you in advance!

Confirmed, here too. I think this remix should not have been released
without wider testing.

There will be an update to fix the LXDE specific bugs. Hopefully there
will be also a working syslinux, but I cannot promise this since all
LiveCDs I do based on rawhide are unbootable. Seems like syslinux is
pretty mich broken ATM.

Will there be a new release with updates?

Why?
Because this release does not boot on several of my machines :(
I get ISOLINUX.. and an error message about
I installed via Live x86_64 cd with GNOME instead. But if a new release is
issued out, I will definitely test it again. Thank you also for the work
behind LXDE as well :)

Rahul,

I hope I am not doing anything bad, but I posted this same link on distrowatch.
I believe LXDE spin/remix is an AWESOME one and I hope to download it tomorrow
when I have faster connection at school :)

http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20090615&mode=67

Great Job!

Regards,

Antonio

The kickstart files in the actual git repo is fine. It is probably just
something odd in the packaging. Just clone the git repo if needed.

Arrrghhh, now I see that it is not enough just to comment rawhide and
uncomment fedora repo lines because in there still stands f10 and not
f11 !

Come on guys, fix respin kickstart files...

I ment to say Fedora 11 repository ;) my mistake. I use update
repository. It could be that there is a bug in some of the updated
packages.

I'll test without update repository and report back.

When I use Fedora 10 Live CD iso image I can normally boot from USB,
to only issue is with the iso image I made.

Can somebody also compare LXDE with and without update repository...

this is how I changed my fedora-live-base.ks

#
# To compose against the current release tree, use the following
"repo" (enabled by default)
#
repo --name=released
--mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=fedora-10&arch=$basearch
#
# To include updates, use the following "repo" (enabled by default)
#

#
# To compose against rawhide, use the following "repo" (disabled by default)
#
# repo --name=rawhide
--mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=rawhide&arch=$basearch

Do you use update repository or only fedora-10 repository?

maybe... one report is nothing, but if you reproduce it than it is

I get same "bad superblock" error when booting your LXDE iso image I
made from this .ks file.

Here is what I did.

livecd-creator -t /home/temp/ --cache=/home/yum-cache/ -f
F11-LXDE-Edition -c lxde-fedora-remix-11.ks

and here fixed fedora-live-base.ks so that it doesn't grab rawhide
repos, you can check it out here: http://fpaste.org/paste/15318

Why is this failing for me? Is there some bug in livecd-creator?

I am not sure I would consider it a bug. It is merely a side effect of
how the spins are composed. Every spin maintainer is already aware of it.

I did that, but still it is a bug ;) And there are references in
fedora-base file to some bugs that are maybe already fixed, if such an
obvious bug was missed by maintainers there could easily be other
errors in fedora-base file...

I'm just finishing making F11 with only current updates, I had some
errors, some packages are depracated, and some other errors...
somebody should look at that.

I'll drop a line how does respinned iso work.

Edit the repository settings in the base kickstart file. It is trivially
changed.

How did you create this Remix? Can you pleas give us a link to
instructions. I'm trying to build my own remix and have stumbled upon
this:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506134

Until this is resolved all remixes will be Rawhide and not Fedora 11 Remixes ;(
