Yes I found a site with the boot.iso stuff and put it on a cd. Even
then I had problems and finally decided to remove the hard drives
and replace them with one larger drive which was my ultimate
intention anyway. Even then the livecd had trouble trying to install
over an existing F-10 on that larger drive. I had to reformat it
with fdisk ... Then the livecd install went as expected.

I also learned a few other things

I believe most of my trouble was due to an item in the BIOS setup
that I had not noticed before which forced it to boot from the first
drive and I had put everything on the second. I didn't notice that
until I replaced the drives and went through the BIOS settings for
   the nth time!

   We get too late smart.

Thanks to all for the help. Now to continue my file server
   experimentation.

F10 stuck at grub -

2009-06-02 Thread Bob Goodwin

I just ran the Fedora 10 Livecd [gnome] install as I have done
several times from this CDROM. All seemed to go normally but it
wont boot, just begins and stops with grub and a blinking cursor
at which point I can't enter anything from the keyboard.

And now it wont let me rerun the live cd a second time?

   What do I do now?

Boot from a rescue CD (the live cd will probably work) and type linux rescue
at the prompt.

After getting to a prompt run chroot /mnt/sysimage and then
grub-install /dev/sda.

Type exit twice and the computer should reboot and will then work.

You can also use a cd made from the boot.iso if it won't take your
liveCD...same process.

I guess I will have to make a boot disk, the livecd goes right on about
it's business. I see no chance to enter linux rescue.

Thanks I will do as you suggest as soon as I get some other domestic
chores behind me.

You can use a live CD for rescue purposes if you know what you're doing, but
you have to manually mount your installed system, you don't
get /mnt/sysimage automatically mounted.
