Yes, I think the plugins cause your problem. Well, this is certainly part of the problem. In my /etc/yum.repos.d I also found a certain number of fedora*.repo.rpmnew files, just like an update on the repositories was attempted, but I was still using the old ones. I renamed the current repo files and use the "rpmnew" ones, and removed all plugins except "protectbase": the update finally completed smoothly (ehi! I was missing 243 updates!) As explained before, it either has the newest metadata or not. If it has the newest metadata with "ntpdate" and "ntp-perl" in it, it also has "ntp" in it. Run yum update again! ntpdate is built from the ntp src.rpm, so both packages are updated at once: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F9/FEDORA-2008-8732 It would be strange if any mirror got only a partial set of the ntp* binary rpms (and if the repo metadata covered only that partial set). Please check that you don't have any duplicate packages installed.
