Re: FC9 ntpdate dependencies problem?

2008-10-23 Thread Marco DELMASTRO

Hi...

Or are the yum plugns I'm using
messing up things? If I run:

yum --noplugins --disablerepo=atrpms,livna,fedora-rawhide update

I get a looong list of things to be updated (see below)!

Yes, I think the plugins cause your problem.

Well, this is certainly part of the problem. In my /etc/yum.repos.d I
also found a certain number of fedora*.repo.rpmnew files, just like an
update on the repositories was attempted, but I was still using the old
ones.

I renamed the current repo files and use the "rpmnew" ones, and removed
all plugins except "protectbase": the update finally completed smoothly
(ehi! I was missing 243 updates!)

Thanks for the support, ciao, M.

Some of the plugins could be the source of your problems.
At least their names sound suspicious. ;)

A mirror cannot be missing a single file from a set of packages built from
the same src.rpm. As explained before, it either has the newest metadata
or not. If it has the newest metadata with "ntpdate" and "ntp-perl" in it,
it also has "ntp" in it. The actual pkg file is here, btw (which is the
mirror listed in your Yum output), but files are not accessed prior to
the final downloading step.

Re: FC9 ntpdate dependencies problem?

2008-10-22 Thread Marco DELMASTRO

Hi there...

Please check that you don't have any duplicate packages installed.
(package-cleanup --cleandupes)

Setting up yum
No dupes to clean

In case of problems like this, please *always* show the relevant RPM/Yum
queries, such as: rpm -qa ntp\* and yum list ntp\*

# rpm -qa ntp\*

ntp-4.2.4p4-7.fc9.i386
ntpdate-4.2.4p4-7.fc9.i386

# yum list ntp\*

I guess the problem could come from ntp missing in this new (?)
repository "updates-newkey" (ehi! Where does it come from? Should I
enable it?) missing the newest ntp. Or are the yum plugns I'm using
messing up things? If I run:

ntpdate is built from the ntp src.rpm, so both packages are updated at
once:

  https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F9/FEDORA-2008-8732

It would be strange if any mirror got only a partial set of the
ntp* binary rpms (and if the repo metadata covered only that
partial set).

Please check that you don't have any duplicate packages installed.

A newer version of ntp is available. Your repo mirror is probably a
little behind. Run yum update again!
