I have the same symptoms on two laptops one as reported in the earlier post which has kmod-nvidia installed, and the other is a Dell d610 with an M300 ATI card running standard Fedora 9 driver. Note: All of my problems started when the kernel bootup says: "... parsing ELF..." For (1) "ASUS P5GC-MX/1333": The kernel HANGS with kernel versions: kernel-2.6.26.3-29.f9.i686 kernel-2.6.26.5-45.fc9.i686 For 2.6.25.14-108.f9.i686: the startup GUI fails but startup text (init) continues on and successfully starts login GUI For (2) "Intel DQ35J0": All of the Kernel versions do not hang. The startup GUI fails but startup text (init) continues on and successfully starts login GUI I believe this is related to the xorg updates some time after kernels releases later than kernel-2.6.25.14-108.f9.i686 But as for the HANGing - I have NO CLUE what is going on nor why. Somehow, pressing the power button would bring it out of the deadlock and it would start booting. This morning I've booted to the previous version that worked fine - 2.6.25.14-69 and did a yum update to 2.6.26.5-28.
