The Portuguese of Brazil is different of the Portuguese of Portugal,

The question is that we have one fórum with 1300 users of the Fedora and
a community in the ORKUT with 1200 users and no list of quarrel!

Independent the name to be fedora-br or fedora-pt_br or another thing,
we need with urgency of this list :-)

I suggest to identify lists of users of this form:
FEDORA-USERS-COUNTRY
Then the list of Brazilian users would be FEDORA-USERS-BR

Exactly that they do not modify the existing lists already, would be
interesting that the new lists followed this standard.

Ahhh! We also are American not only who we are born in the USA we
are American, you they are Americans of the North and us we are American
of the South heheheh :-)

ordering to manufacture adhesive and shirts of the Fedora Core to

https://fisl.softwarelivre.org/7.0/papers/speaker/

http://twiki.softwarelivre.org/bin/view/Fisl7/Classifica%e7%e3oDasPropostas.

Os membros da comissão avaliadora estão listados em:

http://twiki.softwarelivre.org/bin/view/Fisl7/Comiss%e3oDeAvaliadores

palestrantes.

Saudações,

Hi Rodrigo Padula de Oliveira,

We're pleased to inform you that your lecture proposal for fisl7.0, with
title

"PROJETO FEDORA BRASIL",

was accepted for presentation in the event.

It's necessary that you confirm your attendance *until next February 6th*,

through the "Speakers' corner":

https://fisl.softwarelivre.org/7.0/papers/speaker/

There you can also check your proposals' reviews and comments from
reviewers,

which can help you to improve the presentation, abstract, or just give
you a feedback

from reviewers about your work.

The criteria used for the review can be found at:

http://twiki.softwarelivre.org/bin/view/Fisl7/Classifica%e7%e3oDasPropostas.

(sorry, for now it's Portuguese only, so if you have any doubt please
get in touch).

Members of the reviews comission are listed at:

http://twiki.softwarelivre.org/bin/view/Fisl7/Comiss%e3oDeAvaliadores

We've adopted a policy of avoiding more than a lecture per person,

trying to give opportunity to more people. This way, if you have submitted

more than one lecture proposal, it's possible that one or more of them have

been rejected even with a classification argument greater than the minimum

needed to be accpted in its corresponding track.

We'll get in touch in a few days with useful information for speakers.

Best wishes,

An animal is a very good idea!!

A modified tux or another animal ??

Animals in use:

 elephant = PostgreSQL
 dolphin = MySQL
 camaleon = Suse
 Gnu = Gnu Project
 Fish = Bluefish, OpenSsh
 Penguin = Linux
 Dino = Mozilla
 fox = Firefox
 bird = Firebird, Thunderbird

We could launch a campaign in the Internet to choose the new Mascot.

Fedora Marketing Problem with LiveCD

Hi Guys!!

Last weekend i tested the Fedora LiveCD (Gnome and KDE).

I have noted a BIG problem. This cds doesn't has OpenOffice.

I believe that the OpenOffice Presenter is a VERY IMPORTANT SOFTWARE in
the LiveCD. LiveCd is used to make presentations and demonstrations
about Fedora and how can I do this without a OpenOffice Presenter.

Koffice and others dont have the same OpenOffice quality and compatibility.

I have many others sugestions based in the profile of the LiveCd users.

For who can i send changes and package suggestions?

Rodrigo Padula de Oliveira.

Fedora Life Cycle

2007-10-22 Thread Rodrigo Padula de Oliveira
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi All!!

I'm thinking about the Fedora Life Cycle and i have some conclusions:

- - 13 months is a very short life cycle time and it's a bad thing
thinking in the Fedora Marketing (I am constantly asked about it in my
lectures).
- - with this short time we cannot use Fedora in production servers. In
Brazil we have BIG FEDORA CASES and it's a major concern of Brazilian TI
Managers.
- - many of linux distributions has more than 13 months of life cycle

So,how can we extend that life cycle to increase for at least 2 years by
release?

IMHO, we should do this!!

By example i will use the biggest Brazilian Fedora Case.

SERPRO (Brazilian Government IT Department) has more than 8.000 desktop
stations and several servers using Fedora inside spread in 26 Brazilian
States.

Do you have any idea of what i'm talking about

How can they update it every six month?? It's a craziness !!

It involves planning and a lot of work! it's not that simple!

IMHO the release and life cycle must be increased!

RELEASE -> 1 per year
LIFE CYCLE -> 2 years

It'd reduce the Artwork, Free Media, Marketing, Translation,
Documentation and Packing issues.

and mirrors, band use and others things!!!!!!

Best regards!

So if you need Stability... use Red Hat or CENTOS. (HELLO SERPRO..
CHANGE YOUR GNU/LINUX DISTRIBUTION!)

If you are interested to test software and innovation(six on six months)
for when it will be stable for Red Hat and CentOS.. use fedora!

Great Marketing issue!!!

You are saying that in your lectures ?? It's a negative marketing!

If i say that bull. here, all Brazilian fedora users will be use
UBUNTU! So.. we won't have users to test these INNOVATIONS!

Hi all!!!

The Brazilian Translation Project has -1 translator.

What's the reason ?

He say that: "Now i'm working and using CENTOS and Red hat"

Why ??? THE FEDORA LIFE CYCLE!!!

Why he is going ?? "I contribute with the project that i use!"

So, if the users are using CENTOS, they will not contribute with the
fedora project and it's a BIG sh..

Eu sou um Fedora Usuário / Contribuinte e vou continua a ser!
But it has no meaning, thinking with yours arguments!
My goal is to make the Fedora BEST TO USE and not the CENTOS/Red Hat. My
goal is spread FEDORA and not CENTOS/Red Hat. My goal is see Fedora in
Servers, Desktops and not CENTOS/Red Hat.

For the red hat engeneers it's make sense, for me not! I don't receive
money to do my job and to spread Fedora around all Brazilian states!

I only receive support from Max and Thomas to viability that and i do
this in te best way possible!

Only in 2007 I do 14 presentations of fedora and fedora project in
events with 150/200 persons in each presentation. With my arguments the
Brazilian Project had created local users groups in many states and
recruit many collaborators to translation, documentation, packing and
marketing project.

In Brazil we have a fedora web community with more than 8.000 persons
using and testing fedora and I do this because I believe! I am here with
my very bad English to defend it!

And They can not enjoy the innovations?

Let's go!
- - Fedora is released
- - 1 or 2 months packing and releasing new and necessaries packages
versions ( now we have 11 months).
- - 1 or 2 months planning, studying the impacts, creating the migration
plan and applying it(now we have 9 months)
- - o in 9 months we have to do this again
- - so, we will use CENTOS or DEBIAN.

That is the problem! Year by year migrating all fedora systems to the
new version!

The conference was held with great success.

There was a great integration between the participating countries. Our
stand was very busy and also a lot of public participation in talks.

We are already planning the next event for 2008.

Thinking to improve and expand the distribution of media and

is collecting donations to buy a CD / DVD publisher(US$3.750,00=R$6.000).

This idea will decrease the cost and increase the velocity of the media

If you want to contribute, we provide a link to the PayPall on the

Wikipidia - Goodbye Red Hat and Fedora

Hello Guys!

Read this bad news:

http://www.linuxworld.com.au/index.php/id;1474805050;fp;16;fpid;1

This is happening frequently. I think we will have to revise some things
within the project, particularly the creation of a Legacy project or a
Fedora LTS.

The brazilian government, one of the biggest Fedora Case of the world is
changing from Fedora/ Red Hat to Ubuntu/Debian.

We need to think and create a solution to give support by a long time or
the fedora user will decrease!

So, we are working here to recommend Red Hat and CENTOS ??

That's the question, Ubuntu has a LTS, Fedora don't! That's the main
problem of the Fedora Project.

Today, we have many users! With this idea to recommend Centos and Red
Hat, we will have a lot of users in the future ?

Thinking in this way, we will hear frequently "Fedora is a beta tester
version to add and improve technologies for Red Hat EL ".

For me and for marketing, it isn't a great decision!

Now i'm presenting lectures in all Brazilian states and i can't talk
about this.. USE CENTOS OR RHEL. I have to recommend Fedora.

I'm here to represent and spread fedora, not Centos or Red hat EL.

We are talking not exclusively about Fedora for Servers, here in Brazil,
SERPRO and others companies and government departments are migrating
Desktops Fedora to Desktops Ubuntu.

You got it ?

SERPRO (Brazilian Government IT Department) has more than 9.000 desktops
running Fedora (in all brazilian states) and now is migrating to Ubuntu,
because is impossible to migrate every year to other Fedora Release.
With the short time support is impossible to work and use Fedora.

So, thinking in this way, Bill gates is correct!

"We think of (FEDORA) as a competitor in the student and hobbiest
market, but i really don't think in the commercial market we'll see it
in any significant way"

Bill gates

So we have to say that ??

- If you are a Geek, a student or developer, you can use Fedora
otherwise, you have to use Centos or Red Hat EL.

Great marketing guys!! With this idea we will conquest the world!!

Sorry, but, for me it don't make sense! I can't work in a project in a
cooperative way, contributing and cooperating with something that's not
to be used in a serious way.

I know what is Fedora and I understand the GOAL of the project, i'm here
since 2005.

But i disagree with some points! We can't only think in: "developping /
building / creating / innovating / revolutionning"

It's great for others distros like Red Hat EL and Centos, but for
Fedora, no!

Thinking in this way, we are working to improve other distros.

In Brazil, the base of Red Hat users is Fedora users in the past.

If the companies use Ubuntu, they will use Debian on Servers in the future.

It's happening here and is VERY bad for Fedora and Red Hat. SERPRO is
migrating from Fedora to Ubuntu and canceling contracts with Red hat to
put Debian in your servers, so, less $ to red hat less $ to Fedora
Project.

Fedora i loosing space, users, opportunities and contributors!

Who contribute with a project, want to see you contributions being used
in companies, schools, governments...

Yes, but we can BE BETTER, only adding more 1 year of updates to the
packages!! With this improvement on the project the number of
users/collaborators will increase!!

It's good for fedora, for red hat, for US... for the FOSS world!

Fedora is a good distro and can be much better!

This is the way!

Reopen the Legacy project would be great!

But, we need to use the same infra and repositories of Fedora Project.

If the Legacy project will be a official project i can work HARD to
recruit people to work in LATAM.

So, that's is the question. Can we maintain Fedora releases by more 1
year officially, using the official mirrors and repos ?

The fedora Board has a position about this ?

In 2009 my main goal at the Fedora Project in latin america will be
recruit people to the packaging project.

Increasing the number of people involved in this project we will can
think in the Legacy project more efficiently.

Fedora Carbon Zero Project

2009-01-12 Thread Rodrigo Padula de Oliveira
Hello Guys!

I'm creating the Fedora Zero Carbon Project.

I will neutralize the carbon emissions of our server (LATAM).

COMPUTER WORLD RESEARCH:
1 Dedicated Web Server = 1.200 KWh/year = 632 Kg CO2 / year

So, to neutralize one server we need 3 Trees.

Now, i need informations about all servers that we have in Fedora
Project to neutralize.

I Will plant 4 trees by server!

Some ideas from Jayme to represent this project:
