Re: CLS
Belinda, Regretfully, will you add dear, sweet, little Ellen to the CLS as deceased. 8/24/05. She just "gave up" late yesterday, and all I could do was hold her in my arms thru the night, whispering reassurances to her that although all 1.3 lbs. of her put up such a brave, determined effort to "fight", it was okay for her to go to sleep and join the other fur-angels. She had earned her "wings". She passed, quietly in my arms during the early morning hours. I am completely devastated with losing her. Such a sweet, tiny little baby, but she's struggled so hard to stay alive. She tried so hard, she had a determined spirit for such a frail baby. But she was just so small, so innocent. She just didn't have the strength to fight anymore, and it was heartbreaking to look in her eyes & realize she'd just given up. For the short time she was with me, she definitely stole a big piece of my heart... What a cruel fate, such an awful death, for her & all the others that died senselessly because of the irresponsibility of her "supposed" rescuer. Yes, they were "spared" the horror of the gas chamber, but for all these innocents to die such a "horrible" death due to the "transport from hell", I wonder which fate would have been the lesser of the two evils... The heartbreak of all this is also NOT knowing how many other innocents died from exposure to the still "UNKNOWN KILLER" of the transported cats, all due to the failure of the person doing the transport to be upfront & honest with all of us involved. And also how many cats are STILL at risk because the while truth hasn't been told??? Also, her sheer DISREGARD for the lives of these babies by basically just cramming the 20+ cats into a small vehicle, UNVETTED WITH NO PAPERWORK from the shelter, mixing litters, crammed into carriers & the cardboard "temporary" carriers, like sardines, without food, water or even a damn litterbox for the long ride , non-stop, from Georgia to Pa., on one of the hottest, most humid days, then to Ohio, then to N.Y., then finally back to HER home in Pa. (a 2 bedroom townhouse, in which she already is housing 50 (Yes, FIFTY!!!), of her own cats AND, as if things couldn't be any worse, this was her SECOND large transport from the SAME SHELTER in a two week period!! How in the hell could this be allowed to happen??? This woman is NOT A RESCUER, BUT A MURDEROUS COLLECTOR!!! I apologize for my harshness, I am NOT an evil person But I am over-ridden with grief & guilt. If I had been able to think that afternoon, I should have called The Adams Co. SPCA to the scene, but I just did not have my "wits" together..Regrets, I am having a VERY difficult time DEALING w/ the reality & gravity of the horror! The SENSELESS loss of so many lives, the unknown number of other innocents that are now in danger. Right now, I would like to put this woman in the trunk of a small car on a hot, humid day, drive 600-700 miles, and then "toss" her in a gas chamber... I do not mean to offend anyone on this list. God knows, I love you all and you all have been such a wonderful, supportive, compassionate group of people, no doubt this list has always been my favorite due to the fact of the "closeness" & support. So, please forgive me, but I NEEDED TO VENT!!! I am totally heartbroken and have lost faith in what RESCUE is supposed to be about... I always believed it meant "saving" the innocents, NOT killing them. After this, I think it's time I just throw in the towel. My heart is broken, to the point I am saying hateful things. It's time to quit. Patti
Re: FW: CLS - Please add Twiggy to the Special Needs list
My vet suggested pinch bowls--small metal bowls chefs use for a small amount of seasoning etc--try a kitchen store, Linens and Things etc. They are small, slanted so the cat can lick them clean and easy to disinfect. They are very inexpensive too. I think my 4 ran less than $4.00. - Original Message - From: "Nina" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 6:36 PM Subject: Re: FW: CLS - Please add Twiggy to the Special Needs list > Joan, > Tell your friend to try lunch meat, sour cream, plain yogurt, anything > to get her to eat on her own. Re: FW: CLS - Please add Twiggy to the Special Needs list
Joan, Tell your friend to try lunch meat, sour cream, plain yogurt, anything to get her to eat on her own. Sometimes a few drops of salmon oil on top will help them smell their food and encourage them to eat. Warming the food sometimes helps. Usually when they are off their food, offering them something pureed or liquid that they can lap rather than chew is better. Try following Twiggy around on hands and knees offering the food over and over. Sometimes if you offer food after a mouthful of syringed, they start eating on their own. Sometimes petting them calmly helps. My Gypsy will sometimes take food from a bowl, but not a dish and visa-versa. Please let your friend know we are pulling for little Twiggy. Re: Tater Tot
Thank you so much for your lovely words, Nina. He was a little character and we miss him dearly. This morning, his big brother Spud (he IS a big boy and Tater Tot was so little, what else could he be named?) sat on the bathroom counter staring at me and he looked so sad. He'd been sleeping with Tater the last few days, and I'm sure he knew Tater was preparing to leave. As I tied my apron strings, he reached over and tapped me. It was so sweet. Love, Julie Ohhh Julie,I'm so sorry to hear about Tater. He lived his little life with gusto though, didn't he? I can just see him pulling at your apron strings, batting at his sibling's tails. What a little love! It's so very hard to lose them, no matter what the circumstances. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that it was very clear that it was indeed his time and that he enjoyed his life up to the last. I know how hard it is going to be to tie those apron strings, all those little 'ritual' things that we've taken such joy in can be such a torment at first. It was a very long time before I was able to make myself a cup of tea after Jazz left me, (she used to come running out of nowhere, trilling her head off, begging for the balled up wrapper to bat around). Now when I do have a cup of tea, or when I sit down and think of her jumping on my lap before I'm settled, I can feel her presence, I know she's still with me. Sometimes I can even feel her little paw tapping me on my thigh, asking to come up on the computer desk while I type. Pay attention to those apron strings, he's right there batting at them still. Much love to you my dear,NinaJulie Johnson wrote:> Dear Friends,> > My sweet little man is gone. You and he have been through so much recently and have both worked so hard together to overcome his illnesses. He was such a fun little fellow too, which surely makes losing him even harder. What can I say to ease your pain, except that he knew what it was to be fiercely and dearly loved and cared for right to the end: you gave him the most precious gift of all, and he knew it. Sunday evening he started having seizures; we rushed him to the ER and chose to end his suffering. He'd been hanging in there; Saturday night he got up and checked out the fresh catnip on the scratching pad and Sunday morning he was the first one at the food dish, although he didn't eat much. He started to go downhill rather quickly on Sunday afternoon and I was preparing to call the ER when the seizures started. I hope he knew we were with him; I think he did. He was only 6 years of age and he was such a silly little busybody. He had to grab my apron strings every morning when I was getting ready to feed and he loved to eat from the top level of the condo so he could lean down and grab the tail of whoever was below. Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers for him; you're the most special group of people I've ever known.
